He also reported that we fired Sampson and that turned out to be untrue. I did a separate post on his report, but I'd call it a rumor until something more concrete emerges.

Most of the coaches reviewed could do well at IU.

BUT can they become LEGENDS in the state? Let me put it this way.

My mother, now 87 years old, was on a trip to B-town and by happenstance ended up with a picture of her outside a church w Bobby K, That picture has been on her refridgerator for over 25 years.

Bobby brought together farmers, little old church ladies, long haul truckers, mechanics, doctors and lawyers to hear him speak and raise $ for the library. He has been mostly a loser the last 20 years but no one really cares. He goes beyond wins and losses. He is a LEGEND.

I want those days back. Is this not possible again ?

I look at all the coaches in this light and think Bennett is my best hope. I base this on his record w few athletes and the YOUTUBE video that impressed me. I see a whole team playing a whole game with the heart of Suhr, Taber and DJ.

I am less sure but perhaps Miller or Dixon or Wright. can do it I donot know. Calipari ? Pitino ? Pearl ? I just donot see the church ladies coming out.

Man I hope this guy is right...however, it is strange that he is the ONLY journalist reporting this. He must have some nice connections or he is eager to break a story that would be like, 5 days early, if it ever happens...I'm still hoping for this guy to be correct

Fox Sports is reporting that IU offered the job to Tony Bennett. http://msn.foxsports.com/cb... theres a link. he cites 2 sources, but until i hear more from a more credible source i will take it with a grain of salt. this reporter has not been very correct in previous reports about IU, as readers of the IDS basketblog might have seen, but still, i imagine that this blog and other blogs will be all over this in the morning

Ok after reading some of the other boards I've come to a couple conclusions.
A. I'm not the worst typer out there.
B. We are the most sane board out there.
C. After reading the post about where the planes we are flying I think Bloomington and Louisville are in an air war because planes are everywhere.
D. I can't believe some of the others really want Calipari. Again we are only sane board.
E. They actually believe a school wouldn't find a way to talk to a coach still in the tourney. Have they forgotten who our administration is? They love bad press.
F. Relish the rumor time. We could look back at it with fondness when reality hits.
G. At least the committee seems active.
H. Big A or easy said stalkerish about us talkign about the planes. They were checking out menu;s and deliveries. (insert creepy music here)

Well ok it was more than a couple but hey.

Yeah I doubt he would considering he knows how U of L has been burnt pretty bad with their football coaches. Louisville would probably chase him and his family out of town and then try to invade Indiana. But that would be ok because Most Kentuckians don't know which way Indiana is anyway.

Dixon got offered from Cal (he's from the West Coast) and said no. Not sure if we're looking at him, not sure if he'd be interested. But he seems to want to stay at Pitt FWIW.

Hoosier Scoop has some interesting stuff. They're trying to put together all the tips they've been hearing. One of those apparently is that there was a committee member on the plane to South Bend. Remember Seth Davis wrote awhile ago that we had a faction that wanted Brey. Who knows though? I'd be surprised if it was him. I know who I like, and I think that if we don't get a major name it will be Bennett, who I'd be happy with. So I think I'll be satisfied in the end. Rumors are REALLY starting to fly now though, so I hope it gets over with soon.

ok guys I'm only telling you what my friend saw and thats it. Pitino was spotted by my friend eating at a restaurant with people who were not associated with louiville. Didn't know if they were from IU, but apparently the restaurnat was located pretty far from where the louiville team stayed. I don't know what to think of it, but it would be kind of cool if he was talking to IU. Feel free to insult me as much as you want.

how many times do we hear of coaches, both in football and basketball, tell their boss or their players or the fans that they aren't going anywhere and that they want to coach the team they are coaching, only to take the money and run for greener pastures? i don't necessarily think that is what is going to happen, but it is something to consider

I think it may be a real surprise who the next coach is. We, the fans, have our ideas of who we like but that doesn't have a thing to do with who "THE COMMITTEE" recommends.

Most coaches are not going to publicly say they want the IU job until it is offered and is a pretty done deal. If they commit to IU and things don't work out all they have done is hurt themselves with their current school.

I hope this time after the announcement that the fans aren't saying, WHO?

I have no idea who it will be but I hope we know soon.

Interesting stuff. Looks more and more to me like Bennett will be the one to come. Nothing wrong with that. Though I am surprised Crean wouldn't say that he wasn't coming, considering in the past he was pretty adamant about staying at Marquette.
