Inside the Hall: Who’s your starting five?

  • hoosier07 · 1 year ago
i hope Crean rotates his starting 5 so they all get early first half experience --> THEY ALL NEED IT!!

the more important question for me is who will prove themselves the most to be part of the starting 5 in '09 -- that's what im really curious about ....
  • Alex · 1 year ago
Also, who won't return after this season? As it stands, there are 14 players for 2009 and 13 spots if the NCAA doesn't take additional scholarships.

good point!! should be interesting ...

with more big men coming in '09, any chance Tijan loses his scholly?
  • junkman · 1 year ago
Dude, did you forget that Rivers has to sit out this season as a result of the NCAA transfer rules...

Feel like it's got to be Roth or Tijan, neither were really recruited out of their previous schools.

Watford will start for sure. Creek possibly could. Thats it for 09 commits.
    PG.- Jones-soph
    SG.- Dumes-senior
    SF- Williams-soph
    PF- Watford-freshman
    C- Pritchard

I think there's a good chance Rivers will be in the lineup.

Rivers has to start, he has a lot of experience on one of the best teams in arguably the toughest conference in the nation. He seemed to be a good point guard, but he might fit in well as a combo guard in Crean's offense.

Also, look for Watford to play the 3, he's not a banger at all.

According to the roster stats Jones is the same height as Story and can handle the ball . The starting 5 seems clear to me as listed.

I actually look for Story rotating with the guards , Jobe rotates with Pritchard and Barnett and Lewis with Taber. I see Roth , who has been hurt, finding it difficult to find a role unless he is killer on defense.

Next year its Dumes, Rivers, Watford, Pritchard , Capobianco

Not a bad prediction for the '09 lineup... Pritchard and Capo have banger mentalities that translate well to Big Ten play and Crean's desire for passion/tenacity.

I think story will replace Jones. Williams will move to the 2 and Story to the 3...That might be a little into the season though. And do not be surprised if Daniel Moore gets a lot of PT into the season...He is the one true point guard they have. I wouldnt be surprised if in 09 all these guys besides maybe pritchard(only cuz of size) will not be starting. Dont sleep on Elston, he is a freak athlete if he comes back from his knee injury and then it will be watford creek and story battling for a couple spots

    What injury does Roth have?
  • JerryCT · 1 year ago

I think everyone is underestimating how often four guards are going to be on the floor. I see Jones, Dumes, Story, and Williams on the floor together quite often. Crean had four guard rotations at Marquette and if any lineup looks like it will feature four guard rotations, it's this one.

The season is wash...lets get them all experience.
  • Disco_Briscoe · 1 year ago
I dont know how this guy could say Williams is fighting for a starting postion, its his for sure. Pritchard should hands down start over Jobe. Story will be in the starting lineup with Taber injured and maybe for entire season. It's going to be scary because of inexperience, lack of size, and lack of depth but expectations are low so maybe they can over achieve some and shock us all.

No way Story over Williams. At his public speech Crean said Williams, Pritchard and Dumes were developing the best, they'd have to be given the nod. If Taber's recovered from surgery fully, he'll likely start. That leaves Story vs. Jones. I think that if Dumes can handle the point, he'll put Malik in for some additional size over minute Verdall.
  • Alex · 1 year ago
I think Dumes will be counted on to score (he's more of a scorer than a true point), so if Verdell can handle running the team, he'll be in there.
