I have a question. Assuming we get Irving ( I like our odds). What if he brings Christmas and Gilcrest with him in 2011? Never mind if Teague's ,Plumlee, or Zeller want to come also. How can we turn players of there caliber away? I hate to say it. But I see transfers coming at the end of this season. Some reason I see William's decommiting

Ron I think we will get KI and one other player...which leads to your final point......don't know who or how many but you may some a transfer next season. I personally hope not as I like the group we are putting together and I don't want that bad reputation......BUT to get a blue chip player, I would get over it.....

Making shots will garner him a bit of playing time. He will, however, need to improve at the defensive end if he hopes to get a significant amount of time.

This is a huge year for roth, if he does what he is known for which is stretching the D, making threes, and developes and game inside the 3, he has a long term place at IU....and if he gives good minutes on the defensive end.

On a side note, can't wait til we get closer to the season to talk about this years team so I can make my bold prediction about Devan Dumes. I am two for two on IU predictions with my D. Moore and VJ predictions last year.

Moves well without the ball, super athletic and my favorite is that he finishes well at the hole. Would like to see him create his own shot and what that shot would look like. Seems like a good prospect, especially if you have a heady guard finding him in the open floor....maybe someone like Hulls.

Makes me wonder why he's ranked so low. How well can he shoot? I know Dematha is a great school but was playing against good competition? I wonder if he can get away with those type of dunks in the big ten?

He's super athletic but he's far from polished and needs a lot of work but I get offering him because of his upside but I will never get the David Williams offer.

At worst Vic will be athletic ballhawk off the bench that can cause havoc but if Crean is as good as hyped about developing guards then he could be a real steal because he does have special athleticism.

From the looks of this video....
I would compare VO to CDR from memphis or Jordan Crawford. Very very active, which I like. If he committed to IU, I would be VERY happy. Just like the kids game......and seems to be a good piece to a puzzle. Is he 5star, not right now, but could be......

Backdoor cuts and alleyoops are fun in high school (or Northwestern). But here's the line that sold me: "Oladipo plays with great passion and effort whenever he steps on the court." I'm sold. Sign him up. That's the kind of players we want at IU.

He is fearless at the rim which I love! He definitely knows how to go up strong with the ball! This toughness makes him the type of player that IU fans would love to cheer for.

Currently at #133 and 6'4" I cannot get so excited but I hope he develops into a monster and comes to IU.

In general I am more interested in how the current team is practicing . Now if we were talking Gilchrist ...............I would sing a different tune

I donot think it is likely at all. The HS team was loaded with KI not even the best player and they all split up ie no one followed anybody. I think the scoring guard went to Texas for example.

In general I think "connections" are overrated. If they actually worked then I would say we did not get much of an Eric Gordon bounce ...did we ? TP , Roth , Jones ?

Perhaps the greatest influencer would be the HS coach who has acted like a father figure or....
from what I saw of the IU facilities last night on the BTN telecast any skinny kid who wants to add bulk might be more impressed with our training facility than anything else.

Have to agree with Jerry, specifically on Gilchrist. Seems like he's been penciled in to either Villanova or Kentucky for quite some time.

In my mind measuring our recruiting progress goes something like this;

1) mentioned or "listed" every year by 20 of the top 50
2) in contention for 3 top 25's and 5 from 25 to 60
3) in contention in NYC area, Baltimore, Louisville, Chicago and Indiana
4) a majority of over top 60's is not failure but not progress

As such, a mention or listing from Gilchrist is good news. Oladipo fits into the goal for Baltimore but fails the top 60 test.

I personally do not think rating services are good predictors so I would certainly accept a top 150 kid if the coach does. I am only talking about how we know our recruiting is getting better or on track based on visits by prospects. I also donot think we need "one & done" players, poor students or trouble makers..............neither help us restore or create our "brand"

You can't teach athleticism and this kid has loads.

I know that Crean knows what he's doing and I trust him, but it is a little confusing regarding all the offers. I think that he must be letting kids know that their offers might be rescinded if certain other players commit. I also think he's creating a sense of urgency around the program, making kids think they better commit before its too late.

Well they haven't signed yet. And I wouldn't correct that normally, but in the current environment with so many offers out there I think its important. Offers don't equal commits and commits don't equal LOIs. Given the numbers involved, I wouldn't be surprised if some commits during the next few years were retracted.

What I don't understand is why these kids commit so early now....why do we need a committment from 2011? Why should a kid commit to a school 2 or 3 years out. Soon Freshmen will begin committing early..........
