This is just a sad day for Hoosier fans. Really sad...
Indiana basketball is my oldest love (other than my immediate family of course).
I've lived and breathed IU hoops since I was a little kid...my older brother had an Indiana Mini-Basketball with the "1987 NCAA Champions" logo on it. Shooting that basketball up in the air while on the couch watching games is one of my earliest memories of the Hoosiers. Even though I don't remember the title game, I remember that mini-basketball and the impact it and my older brother had on me as an IU fan.
I consider myself incredibly lucky, because I live in Lafayette and could have been sucked in to the black hole that is Purdue basketball fandom. I still consider myself lucky, still live in Lafayette, and will still root for my Hoosiers until the day I die.
Right now I'm just letting the fond memories get me through this.

Somewhat of a silver lining......
No players paid . No more dirty coaches. still phone call problems and pretty much lying...... Nothing warranting an NCAA ban
This will be grueling because, how will it affect the team, the recruits, when will we get a new coach, who will it be? On and on again.............Mike Davis wasn't so bad after all.....

These allegations are just plain disgusting. There is absoultely no reason to keep him around past tonight. I feel like I did that fateful day in June of 2005 when Sammy Sosa's bat exploded and CORK flew everywhere on the turf of the hallowed Wrigley Field. I feel like Sampson just pissed in the face of all IU fans throughout the world. All i can say is FU(K him and his cheatin ways! I have no respect for any person or institution that would keep him employed past tonights game. I think it would kill the focus of the kids if they canned him today. The kids are about to suffer enough for his indiscretions, they don't need his absence tonight to make one more. GODSPEED KS...you piece of $h!t!

Hoosiersmitty, your saving grace or a temporary band aid is an IU win over the next three games including Purdue...trust me you will feel better. Lucky for KS we don't go to Purdue this year....and hopefully he is fired today.

After watching IU this season replete with Sampson, whom Illinois wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole back in'03, and EJ's AAU pimp sitting on IU's bench employed (with a straight face) as a coach we (OSU; PU; UI fans) are just laughing ourselves toward hyperventilation.
Just desserts; schadenfrudede; etc... We saw this coming 1-1/2 years ago.
The crowning topping on this delicious pastry is that most of you have been in complete denial about KS' ethics (if not his coaching style) since you hired him AND that some now actually believe you can immediately attract a marquee name to the cesspit that your program has become.
Yeah, if I'm Thad Matta I want to abandon what I have rebuilt at OSU (and my three subsequent incoming recruiting classes), take on a sanctioned program that is now a poor stepchild to Purdue, and move from a city the size of Columbus to Bloomington.
Really, those buds in your bowls must be enormous and fresh...
Enjoy what's left of this season (it won't last long) and your return descent into irrelevance. In the spirit of offering a suggestion that will increase the integrity of IU basketball, I hear that Steve Fisher wants to return to the Big Ten...

Cess pit? Really? 20-3, ranked in the top 15 is a cess pit? I have said many a times that Rick Greenspan knew exactly what he was getting when he hired Sampson and he did it anyways. They should both be fired immediately. But for you to call the IU basketball program a cess pit, is ludicrous! Only to be eclipsed by your pompous attitude in your post, might I inquire fine sir, who is your team?

What sucks the most is that we have now stooped down to the level of schools such as Illinois, Minnesota, Purdue, Michigan, Ohio State and Kentucky. Now we have our own closets with skeletons to be embarrassed about. Hopefully our black eye will cover just these last two years.

Relax, take a deep breath. It's not the end of the world. It's not the end of IU basketball. All we have are the allegations outlined.
So far, no punishments have been handed down. A lot can happen between now and June.

That is the stuff Disney movies are made out of right there. I couldn't imagine it happening any better, unless during Coach's first home game, they renamed the hall. RMK Assembly Hall... Has such a nice ring to it. Alas doubtful is an understatement here. Its still fun to think about.

Never have I been so torn about such a prediction. Part of me is glowing inside thinking about the possibility. My personalized autographed b-ball from Bobby that I received as my tenth b-day present holds a lot of clout.
The other half wants to move on -- get a younger coach who will be here for 15 years (not Alford or Zeke). Someone mentioned Scott Drew earlier and I liked the sound of that. Of course we may have to deal with Dakick/McCallum in the short term so as not to lose out on Ebanks, Roth, et al.

Definitely happy, Mike Davis was a horrible coach! Now that we have had two in a row maybe we can let Dac finish out the season and have a look see at our options after we hoist the trophy. Sound like a plan?

These are all allegations by a corrupt, incompetent and hypocritical organization like the NCAA. Not that I think Kelvin should remain but the response by IU fans is shocking to me. Assuming he actually lied I see no reason to keep him around but we need to take a step back and think about all the programs that have done much worse without penalties at this juncture. Off the top of my head I would mention USC (Reggie Bush) and UNC (Pro players in pick up games with Tyler Zeller). Both instances are much worse than anything Sampson, or his staff, are accused of doing (whether the UNC athletic department admits it or not) and the NCAA has done absolutely nothing to punish either program. This is a clear case of the NCAA being out to get IU and gives guidance to other programs to avoid self-reporting at all costs. Right now I am ashamed to call myself an IU fan both for the alleged infractions of Sampson and his staff and (even more so) for the reaction of our fan base.

I am ambivilent about this latest development. I remember being on campus in the early 90's and listening out of my dorm window to chant of F*&% Purdue after we won another game against the Boilers, so I have a soft spot in my heart for the way things used to be.
When I heard this morning about "Major Violations", I thought the worst. Now I read the allegations and I laugh that these are considered major. The only thing that bothers me is if Sampson did in fact lie to the University. Lying to the NCAA and by extension Myles Brand? I might even cheer that action given my dislike of Mr. Brand.
At this point, I am in a wait and see mode and we'll see what comes out of the investigation. I'm more concerned why we haven't seen steady improvement from EJ at this point of the season

I think you make a good argument here. Elston received a t-shirt and (not even a real backpack) a drawstring nylon backpack, and we have reggie bush receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars. Seems to me the NCAA is trying make IU the scape goat here and nitpick every little thing, but what KS did is extremely stupid. I do not want a coach that dumb to be coaching the hoosiers.

Nothing of substance to these "major violations". The charge of lying is a judgement call at best. I chalk that up to poor paper work and record keeping. As for the backpack, give me a break. The party in error was Senderhoff and he was dismissed. This is a non issue that any law firm will be able to stop any type of NCAA sanction which aren't coming to begin with. It's all hype.

It's now 2:15 and IU hasn't bothered to fire an employee who cheated and then lied to cover it up. What are we waiting for? Maybe they want the win tonight then drop the axe tomorrow. That would be the second most famous St. Valentine's Day massacre on record! Fire Sampson and Meyer. Nixon covered up Watergate and quit in disgrace. Sampson covers up phonegate and is still employed. Strange. My beloved university is really making it hard for me right now. The guy needs to go and McRobbie should issue an ultimatum to Greenspan, fire Sampson or I'll fire you, then I'll fire Sampson. Duck Dakich can handle it for the rest of the season.

Unless Sampson gained an advantage that the NCAA could prove from the phone calls then the violations should be simple rules violations and not MAJOR by any standard. Bill Belichick gaained an advantage by using video tape to see the Jets red zone plays. He was charged 500k and a first round draft choice. Sampson has already lost a 500k raise and a scholarship for phone calls that no one has said gave Sampson any clear advantage with a recruit. However, I think Sampson really has tarnished our student-athlete-sportsmanship crown and left us all wanting to kick his ass. Yes, yes we do.

As a Kentucky fan, I know how you folks feel right now. Completely and utterly betrayed by someone who is supposed to be caretaking the proud tradition of your basketball team. Even though you didn't make the mistakes, you will be dealing with the consequences of the mistakes, and the backlash from your rivals. The taint of Kelvin's sins won't wash off quickly, even if he is fired tonight.
Know that IU Basketball is bigger than this scandal, and you should take pride in the well-won victories and hard-to-take defeats of the past. (Hell, my grand tradition of a program just lost to Vandy by 41 points last night.) This too shall pass.
