Good, Bad and Ugly: Loyola (Md.)
I am not sure but a comitted recruit could be considered an "agent" of IU and thus any contact is counted as a "call" ............and of course we have used our alottment up on these guys
IU is the only big boy willing to take a flier on him. He'd be delusional to leave.
My gut tells me Ebanks may still stay....the coach is gone, the opportunity to play is there, and there is not a fanbase out there that loves basketball more (bias me). Ebanks can't sign til April, IU will have a coach by then in which they will ask him to speak to first......I know he is visiting soon with mom so it could happen.
Despite who the coach will be, IU needs to take back the model and plan it set years ago that PU and Butler are using, keep Indiana kids in Indiana, get kids to play a role and play for the name on the front....and screw the back of the jersey
BUT
What do you guys think of IU setting a "leaked to the media" timetable for announcing a new coach or a at least announcing a short list. This may cause a "double clutch" by recruits as their curiosity grabs ahold.
Lets face it. The new coach is going to come immediately with alot of PR and excitement..........unless ..............its a no name.
I am just saying as a strategy for delaying a recruit's decision to go somewhere else IU should announce or leak a timetable they can live with about when a new coach or a short list will be communicated. Then the guys may wait to find out.
As it is rightnow the uncertainty has got to be killing them and they are under pressure to renounce IU before a new coach is named
Bennett: Too young...not enough experience, plus his dream job is wisconson
Keno Davis: Too young....not enough experience
Calapari: Come on....wouldn't fit in with IU...we follow the rules
Anthony Grant: Come on guys.....he isn't proven enough for IU
Alford: I don't think this is a road we need to go down
Peal: Let that freak show keep tennessee....plus following rules questionable
Barns: Doesn't do that much with his talent
Brownell: Come on.....
Take your pick: Indiana or Duke. That's a pretty good track record with "young up and coming talent" that you've so decidedly and ignorantly panned.
Greeny would be roasted if he hires Pitino.....
phFFFFFFtt
If you want to add an additional coach not often mentioned here add Paul Hewitt or Leonard Hamilton at least. Not my favorites but who knows.
In the BIG EAST the only coach who is proven, youngish, and maybe willing to take on the B10 is Jay Wright who I would love to see at IU. Keep in mind he had to clean up Nova from NCAA violations as well.
As for Jay Wright, he cleaned up his own mess at Nova. The phone card scandal was under his watch.
I was commenting on Ben's "Pitino" chant and offering other bottom of the barrel choices ..........glad to see you guys know the bottom of the barrel when you see it.
During the NCAA mess w KS I reviewed all the listed sanctions on the NCAA website. I saw Majerus etc and a Nova sanction in early 2000's but nothing on Wright. The Nova isssue was for bringing recruits to the NBA locker room and introducing to coaches and players of the '76ers. I could have missed something however.
half the team was suspended for their part in a phone card scandal in 2003. im sketchy on the details but i think it was kind of an oblivious move by wright. the reason why im against hiring him is because IU needs to go with someone that is the squeakiest of squeaky clean.
i dont even want a head coach that has had a parking ticket before, much less an actual scandal.
That, and he has a pretty damned fine first name, too.
COACH K WAS AT THE ARMY FOR YEARS
BENNET HASN'T EVEN BEEN A HEAD COACH FOR TWO YEARS
GRANT HASN'T EVERN BEEN A HEAD COACH FOR TWO YEARS
Which will it be? IU has always gone cheap and I predict that is what they will do this time.
yes!!!!! very good news! can't wait to see this kid playing for a program, and not simply for a coach. we'll see a lot of heart from this kid and he'll wear the uniform with a sense of pride.
youtube matt roth folks...
