Good, Bad and Ugly: Loyola (Md.)
Less concerned about losing Greenspan (Mainly for football reasons but I feel like a lot of us gave him a bad wrap for Sampson when a lot of it was Herbert's doing), but I do NOT want any further scholarships to be cut.
Postseason ban wouldn't be the end of the world, because I doubt we're getting there in the first place, but honestly I feel like IU's done enough to prove that we're correcting the issues we had before.
I really feel that IU has taken the steps to avoid any other penalty. To me this was Sampson and his staff skirting the rules. Whether it was caught soon enough or not doesn't change what Sampson was doing. To me, IU has taken the steps necessary by removing the coaching staff as well as almost every player on the roster.
Why should Crean and future players, who have nothing to do with it, be punished? I understand more sanctions when it's academic fraud or paying players. That's an institutional problem that the university should suffer consequences from.
"Never daunted, we cannot falter......in a battle, we're tried and true...Indiana, Indiana, we're all for you..."
Is this why Greenspan & Co. handled the termination of Sampson with such kid gloves? Because they knew they likely shared culpability in the eyes of the NCAA?
Tom Crean may want to run, screaming, to the airport.
Maybe we should tie him up, and throw him in a closet, for a while. I think he already deserves a raise.
I don't blame the Athletic Department for being blindsided and extremely pissed off about this. If there was a "failure to monitor" it should've been uncovered months ago.
By the way, this news almost guarantees a postseason ban and the forfeit of multiple scholarships.
As for Greenspan - I could care less. I said all long if he ended up being a casuality in all of this, than so be it. Whether he was pressured by Herbert or the trustees, the Sampson hire is still viewed as his call...and what a monumental disaster that call turned out to be.
I feel a postseason ban would be wonderfull at this point, a loss of a schollie would hurt!
The NCAA and their stupid phone rules are anal. "Conference calls" are a violation? And did we ever find the phantom recruit that admits he attended IU because of a clear "Telephone" advantage? Well, the NCAA sucks and if I didn't respect the Big A and my fellow ITHers I would use more colorful language
