The "man" who has possibly disconnected us from Devin Ebanks......
The "man" who has bought a squeaky clean program down to one of the most watched program by NCAA officials......
The "man" who said we are going to do things the "right" way and make us all proud....

This is not really surprising in the slightest to me. Last I checked, you can call people all you want in the NBA. The Spurs have a lot of good character people in their organization, but the rules Sampson broke were more a reflection of stupidity as opposed to being a bad person, and there are people with jobs in the NBA who have done way worse things then Sampson (cough, Isiah Thomas, cough cough). And besides, he will be hard pressed to get a job in the ncaa ever again, might as well at least try to do what you can to get an NBA gig (not that I think he will ever be a head coach in the NBA)

Speaking of San Antonio....I suggest ITH puts together a March Mardness bracket challenge on yahoo, espn, or somewhere where ITH regulars can join and compete against each other during the tournament.

I do about a dozen brackets each year anyway, what's one more?

http://wsucougars.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/... I would go Bennett #1 then Miller. You have to look at the fact that Bennett has done a great job at WSU where there was no previous success. He recruited Penny, Tucker, devin harris, and Butch just to name a few while at Wisconsin. He played in the NBA and overseas in New Zealand I believe. He is what I call a system coach that can find players that fit his system while not always needing to rely on the one and done player. He has basketball experience since birth, and is a proven recruiter. Just think a minute where he coaches Washington State a middle of the pack to bottom feeder Pac10 basketball school that is on the west coast where there is limited tv exposure to the rest of the nation, not to mention the fact that he has to go up against UCLA and Stanford for recruiting every year. Quick name a player on their roster...................exactly you can't and he still wins just think what he can do at IU where I would say half the recruitng is the name INDIANA on the jersey..give him the keys and let him drive, plus he's not a bad singer either....

I am 110% w you. On another post in Eubanks section I point out that Miller recruits from a very narrow section of Ohio ( 8 players ) and no top 50 players and maybe no top 100 players. Plus, he inherited a program built by Gillen, Matta, Prosser.

Both guys are great coaches but Bennett's players come from Germany, New Zealand, Australia, Serbia, Ca, Colo, Wisc, Ore, Wash, HI . This tells me he goes to the end of the earth to recruit not just in Ohio.

West Coast born west coast guy............................How long would he stay in the midwest if a high profile Pac 10 job opened..Bennett would probably only consider Wisconsin once Ryan left, but I don't know on what terms him and his dad left Wisconsin.

Did anyone catch ESPN's coverage of the Spurs and Nuggets last night? The newly appointed "advisor" was seated right behind the bench look extremely important...not to mention BoReD! Hubie Brown informed the listening audience that Popp and KS coached together on the US team a few years ago. And Popp has a soft spot in his heart for coaches who can't get out of their own way. Thus, Popp called KS up and said hey...why don't you come sit behind my bench...we'll call you an advisor....and that way you are out in the open where people can see you....that way people don't think you are hiding from anything....so thus...KS has absolutely no responsibilities WHATSOEVER in San Antonio...except to safe a little face and try to get a coaching job after this season.

Why is everyone so high on Tony Bennett as the leading candidate at WSU? I can remember that Kelvin Sampson did a great job there back in the late 80's too, however, he moved on to Oklahoma and proved that he was and still is a big time coach.

If you look at Washington State, their season had not been too impresive. They had a very weak non-conference schedule(after you take a look at WSU and compare to IU-IU's schedule doesn't look so weak.) You did WSU beat this year? NOBODY!!!! Don't tell me a overated Gonzaga team. THEY HAD LOST TO ALL THE RANK TEAMS IN THE PAC 10 and lost to Arizona twice. Bennett has a veteran team that should have battled for the Pac Ten championship- not lose 7 games in the conference. Almost 8 loses- 2OT win at home against Washington. They have not won any big games this year, so he hasn't proven to me that he can handle a big time program. IU is not a place to fine tune your trade and have learning experiences- just ask Mike Davis.

IU needs a proven big time winner and Bennett is not there yet. If you put Bennett's name out there then you should put Bo Ryan's name and all other proven coaches. Sean Miller is a better candidate. At least he won a couple of conference championships and should have beaten Ohio State last year. in the NCAA tournament He also is landing Indiana players at Xavier. Heck, IU should start at the top and call all the big time coaches including Coach K, Bill Self, Izzo, Barnes etc..

WSU lost 2 games each to UCLA, Stanford, Arizona. Which is better ? Losing 2 to UCLA/Stanford or 2 to WIsc, blowout to MSU and Xavier ? Trying to equate A10 wins to Pac10 ( #1 conf this year ) night after night is flawed tunnel vision. Miller's recruiting scope is very weak as mentioned before. Xavier program was built by Gillen, Prosser, Matta. Bo Ryans Wisc teams were recruited by Bennett( Harris, Tucker, Butch ).

Your case for Miller is a LOSS to OSU ? Then why not the coach with the most good losses ?

Both guys can coach but the reason Bennett makes sense is 1) He can build his own team,, no program before him to rely on like Miller 2) recruits the world, not 8 guys from 3 areas of Ohio 3) knows the B-10 not the A-10 4) connections to IU.

Bennett has not won a big game yet or a conference championship. Miller is a better candidate. Xavier will go far in the tournament because of Miller's experience in big games. Bennett has proven to me that he cannot beat the elite teams yet, so why would it be so confident that he can do it at one of the most historical big-time school. YOU still have not given me a good reason why!!! He has not proven anything but come in third place in the overated Pac 10 with all of their 7 loses in conference play. By the way, UCLA is not looking like a great team of late. They should have lost the last two home games if it was not for the officating.

He is still the man, Im not going to let the NCAA and Miles Brand make me hate this guy, you people still aren't angry that these accusations came out the day of the toughest stretch of our schedule, someone is trying to ruin our program from the inside and everyone is just sitting down for it, thats sad. All you all can do is continue to hammer Sampson, wake up people

How is he still the man? The guy broke the rules and got called out twice! I don't care when the NCAA brought forth the allegations, everyone and their mother knew they were pending anyway. If they wanted to sabotage our season they would have brought these allegations forward during the NCAA tournament. The guy that ruined our program, gave our University a black eye, and is now costing us recruits is no longer in town. Although his son is still on the bench.

I wanted to like Sampson from the get go but coming in with baggage and then thumbing your nose at the University and the NCAA is ridiculous. Especially when the NCAA headquarters is an hour away from campus! Of course he is going to be under scrutiny he came here under scrutiny. Rules are rules and he broke them twice and got punished, no conspiracy here. No he didn't give out cars, or houses, or fix grades, but he still broke the rules. Thats like saying petty theft shouldn't be that big of a deal because, "hey at least he didn't kill anyone..." Seriously you need to wake up a realize that he broke the rules, knew he broke the rules, because he took the payout and walked.
