Could not agree with you more Alex and while he is speaking of freedom if he doesn't like the way this site is ran then he is FREE to leave & not come back, under any false name. Maybe he should start his own site so that all of his kind have a place to go & make their garbage comments.

I always got the sense he was higher on us than we were him, so it is hard to take this too roughly. Plus after the VO commit, it made little sense for him to come to IU when we are loaded at his position. A nice pick up for a Depaul team coming off a horrid season...

Fans are all over the board when responding to the recent recruiting news but I think something is pretty clear. We can pretend this isn't a lot of bad news but it is what it is. The 2009 class is a great nucleus and something to be proud of. But 2010?

We are already talking about 2011 and I'm wondering if we did not lose 1 if not 2 years before we seriously contend for a Big Ten Championship based on the lack of star power.

I believe CTC needs more time to be fair to him and the status of the program. But honestly folks, this class is a BUST when compared to the top 50 programs in the country. Where will it be ranked? 80th? Yikes!

I don't think you're off base here Milla. I agree, CTC needs time. I'm not saying he should get a ton of criticism for it, but you're right, the fact is this class is a bit of a bust. With that said, I'm not down on Morgan choosing DePaul, I don't view that as CTC losing a kid. I agree with Craig that Morgan probably saw that playing time would be tough at IU.

What he said was slightly stronger, that he doubted there was an offer. Also that boths sides didn't think it was a good fit. Makes you wonder how all the excitement got started in the first place. Maybe Crean was simply being respectful to a Hoosier Legacy.

Does a Brandon Mobley commitment help solidify the class somewhat? I'm not calling him a game changer, but in terms of depth up front, I think he adds value. It is not going to put us in the Top 10 for recruiting classes, but I think you have to be pleased with a strong 2009 class and even a reasonable 2010 class, then start stoking the fires to add to Carlino and Etherington in 2011 and make some moves in 2012. All indications are that CTC and the crew are trying to bring a strong in-state haul in those two years.

I think I am reading humor into your comment, Hardwood, but I'm beginning to feel bad for Roth with all this transfer talk. Seems unfair to the kid, and I agree with others who think he can become a Leary, Hornsby type of specialist that can be very valuable to a team.

Yes- intended tongue in cheek. I also like Roth, but do wonder what role he'll have at such a stacked position. Bad news for him is he can't play any other position and has been a liability on defense. I hope he has improved. I had suggested a Red Shirt would allow him to improve his defense and at least clear Dumes off the depth chart- but no one else seemed to think that was a good idea.

I would be disappointed if Roth were to transfer, which I don't believe he will. He is our best shooter. Now that we have guys to set him up (such as Hulls) he will be a very valuable piece. We will also need him when teams play zone against us. I don't understand all the transfer talk with him.

Devan Dumas was just barely better from the 3 point line, he and Roth had almost identical takes and makes. If you discard the game that Roth just went off in, which is statistically the anomaly, then you could make the case that Dumas was, if not better, certainly more consistent.

First off you can't just discard games. That makes no sense. I could say the same thing that if you take away Dumes 6 for 10 at NW than Roth's numbers are better. There numbers were very similar, Roth as a Freshman and Dumes as a Junior. Anybody who knows anything about IU basketball knows that Roth has a better stroke from behind the arc than Dumes.

First, having the higher shooting percentage from a comparable distance makes you the better shooter. Anybody who knows anything about basketball knows that there are no style points awarded for the most technically perfect stroke. The ball goes in--you're good, the ball doesn't go in--you're not.

Second, all statisticians, pollsters and other data centric professionals know that anomalous data has skewing effects. This data is routinely sought out and discarded for it can have the effect of masking what really is going on. Roth's Ohio State performance of 9-11 is clearly anomalous. In no other game did he hit as high a percentage or attempt as many shots. People who know about basketball call this "getting hot".

On the other hand, Dumas' 6-10 on 3's is probably not an outlier (there are statistical tests for this). While 10 was his highest number of shot attempts he also had a game with 9 attempts and two games with 8 and two more with 7. So the 10 attempts fits with the whole pattern.

I suggest that his 60% completion for the game also fits the pattern. He shot 57% in both of the games where he attempted 7 shots. In another game he shot 5-5 from 3 point territory. The worst game, among those where he took the most shots, was 4-9.

But even if we did throw this 6-10 game out too, the impact on Dumas' percentage would be less than the negative effect on Roth for throwing his 9-11 out.

I rest my case on the facts. Devan Dumas was, however slightly, the best 3 point shooter on the team last year.

I don't see how you choose a DePaul over IU unless there was a lack of interest on our part or he didn't see minutes in his future. I'm not worried about having a killer class every single year. If we did, there wouldn't be enough PT to go around and we'd lose more of the kids we already have (and it saves a scholly). Balance is key. Good luck to you Moses

In the long run this could be a good thing with the logjam we have at his position. I have to think that it is a strong possibility that an offer was not extended after Moses and his father saw what we have & talked it over with Crean and both decided that IU was not the best fit for him. Right now a scholly is a very precious commodity at IU. When are we back to where we have all of our schollys available to us ? I know CTC can only go after the 5 stars that show interest in us but boy it sure would be nice to snag a big that is a 5 star. I guess that is being kinda greedy when we just need the 5 stars at any position to start commiting. Best of luck to you Moses at DePaul. Alex I don't think you have to fear anyone being mad at your decision to exclude russell baxter from posting here. Just for the record I believe he was a blue bleeder from the smelly depths of Rape Arena. Those people never cease to find ways to make me sick!

I tend to agree w/what seems to be the overall opinion here, Moses ultimately wasn't going to fit and took the best opportunity available to him. Someone mentioned CTC being "respectful to a hoosier legacy" and giving the kid a look, this seems reasonable to me. As for Russell Baxter, I didn't agree with his comments but I think it's a sad commentary when folks have to be banned because some don't like what they say. If his worst offense was being a bit prickly then we've become far to sensitive. ITH is a private entity and can ban who they like but in the world people agree to disagree all the time without having voices silenced.

Totally agree with you and we've banned very few people in the 2+ years of our existence. We've been more than lenient in allowing people to post their views, but in certain instances when someone is instigating for the sake of instigating, that's not something we welcome. It does nothing but take away from the community.

I totally agree and think that moderators should look at more than just instgation, etc. I like this board becasue it sticks to the subject (most of the time) and has inteigent basketball thought.

Not to name names but I find on the IDS board, the first two or three post have to do with basketball but from there is disintegrates into posters that just like to read their own use of big and meaningless oratory.

I can't say I've much to add to the discussion that's not already been said - if Jody Demling is right, and we never really offered this kid, then I can't say it's that much of a loss. IU doesn't want a rep of not being hospitable to former players or their kids, and not just because one of them might be a blue chip recruit one day. That said, I'm surprised that Moses picked DePaul. I can't see that program digging out of the ditch they're in until they swallow their pride and leave the Big East.

I'm rather surprised but not shocked. Morgan wasn't rated very high and when he saw our interest and apparent "in" with better (KI?) players, probably thought he would have a better chance of playing and success at another school.

It is now looking like those "better players" are not as interested in IU as we all hoped and thought. It will be interesting to see how Coach Crean handles this.
