We could have done much worse.
as usual nothing from the indy star
jaime
-Can recruit Indiana
-knows midwest
-knows big ten.
Im down. Lets just hope the deal gets etched in stone.
But i've followed Crean because I rooted for Marquette when my brother was there.
They play similar styles to Izzo's Michigan State teams, and Crean has a keen eye for talent.
Only Marquette and Illinois State offered one Dwayne Wade a scholarship.
Crean also got Wes Matthews to go to Marquette over Wisconsin, where his father played.
Another pro for Crean is both Bo Ryan and the Illinois fans hate him for different reasons.
He has the personality and intensity it will take to rebuild this thing.
Thank god its not lon kruger
crean doesn't have much for 08
He is a tough defensive minded coach who might be just the perfect guy to bring a tough defense and true big ten style of play here. Additionally, a young unproven "up and comer" might not have been able to get Ebanks and Holloway back, but Crean might have a resume good enough to get them to come here and bring a few of his recruits down to Bloomington...and ISN'T Dominic James from Richmond, IN?
Officially Starting a new phrase: The CREAN & Crimson!!!!

**ONE PIECE OF VITAL INFO**
I'm not one to START rumors, so please understand that as I finish this post. I have it on GOOD, SOLID authority that the reason for AB, JE, and JC's suspensions earlier this year were a result of the players failing to take a piss test for suspicion of drug use, more specifically, smokin weed. I would not post this if I didn't trust the source of the information. Ellis' suspension was handed down because DD suspected him of pot use and he wanted Ellis to take a test. When he refused, DD suspended him. The other two were handed down under KS's regime. Like I said before, I have NOT ONCE on this blog posted stories that I thought to be MAYBE true...this one is pretty solid.
Also sorry to hear folks attack DD for taking action. We are all thinking of ourselves and not the best interest of the boys themselves. DD did right by them , imploring them to be men even if they did not like it.
If what you say is true then DD seems to know that wins and losses are irrelevant when it comes to the life lesson
But when dakich kicked them off, i was so angry cause of all the other stuff going on. But, if he rolled it by the ad, and the ad said go with it, do what you gotta do man.
Hopefully they straighten up.
These guys really operate with no rules down here.
We've all heard these rumors about this and that. I'm fine with stuff being mentioned as long as it's done in a respectful way. Just remember these are young kids who make mistakes (as most of us did when we were that age) and let's try to avoid bashing guys here.
And to KGORK...if you or I wanted to get high and our "boss" requested that we take a pee test...and we denied it...what happens? In the words of the immortal Donald Trump, "You're FIRED!" Raymond is correct in his assessment, kids today that are student-ATHLETES get away with murder (figuratively of course). As a 20+ year Hoosier fan and alum, the last thing I want is for a team, to which I give my hard earned money, to "sweep under the rug" any kind of STUPIDITY. Look at the McAlarney kid from Notre Dame. He fessed up and had to sit out a year. Came back, was given a second chance and made the most of it. The key here is that the incident was not swept under the rug....like the CURRENT situation that was started by KS. So please...don't insult my intelligence and tell me...."no big deal."
Honestly, i don't think smoking weed is that big of a deal, that's what I was referring to, but I'm not going to get in a debate on your stance on drug use.
Again, sorry if I offended you.
$h!t like suspensions....
so if you're given a full ride to a stellar academic institution like Indiana and you "smoke" it away to get a lil high...how is that NOT a big deal? If EJ "smokes" his way out of the NBA draft...is that not a big deal?
If you're future is already laid out for you...(i.e. you're parents are filthy rich, you've already won the lottery, etc) then sure, getting high isn't a big deal. When you're future is still in doubt like these three kids who have been named, then it SHOULD be a big deal.
I'm not upset with you at all...please dont' take it that way...I'm just frustrated with trying to teach today's youth that the FUTURE does matter and we have adults in this world that contradict that everyday. Just frustrating....no offense taken.
So what, they want to get a little high, no big deal.
I'm real interested to see the start he can off too. If he can get Bassett and Ellis back that would be decent and if he can get at least one of Holloway and Ebanks that's icing on the cake.
From and earlier post of someones it sounds like Holloway might have been leaning Marquette after Sampson was let go, I don't know if that means he know rethinks IU, but it's definitely a good sign.
He's at a school that is in one of the best conferences in the country getting beat up on every year and he made them better. I think he can do the same thing here. Not to mention, our conference isn't as deep as theirs.
At least he is a hire that won't require total rebuilding @ IU. He can keep things stable and can recruit, not sure about his player development from freshman to seniors, I will have to do more research on that point.
All and all I feel good about the hire, let's get behind him and all the players, (Bassett and Ellis included), and get IU back to top. Can't believe I am typing this, but good job committee thank you. We can all breathe a sigh of relief and exhale.

but of course, this isn't the final piece of the puzzle yet. we still have to wait until june to find out what kind of disaster the ncaa has in store for us/crean/hoosier-country. other than that, I CANNOT WAIT FOR NEXT SEASON!
*ps: let's hope and pray EJ decides against the nba on monday ...

I think Armon and Dominque James are from the same area.
Jamarcus stays.............
Armon goes...................to UAB
EJ stays.........................I feel more confident he will now
Taber stays.................
Holloway leaves............
Ebanks decides to come to IU............
IU sanctions are enough for the NCAA. KS gets banned for 5 years......
Does anyone know if we will have a scholorship or two left for the spring?
Ellis, Ebanks, Mcghee would be a great small forward line up
Thomas, Taber Not too bad at power forwards
Holman, Pritchard at centers......not bad either
I say you get another Juco big man at about 6/10 and what is there too rebuild.............keep our guys keep our recruits....actually control the program and coach the players and we are in the big ten hunt
I'll start. 8 years, 2.3 mil per.
1-Holloway (if he comes)
2- Armon (hopefully Roth can be an instant scorer and rotate into the lineup, Crean's Marquette teams were always good shooting teams)
3- Ebanks
4- Taber
5- Deandre (Eli?)
Posted in reply section first my bad
Marquette shot a lot of 3s this year...they were 246-697 (35%) as a team.
His 2007-2008 team with an "outstanding point guard" averaged 15 assists and 13 tournovers per game this year. That assist average is not very good in my opinion. They averaged around 76 points per game. I'm nervous abou them only shooting 80+ more free throws than field goals in the entire season. I just know that they shot alot and had two guards (McNeal and James) who could go to the rim almost at will. I didn't see enough of that for my pleasure as I watched Marq. play this year. You asked for input...you got it.

1. Success: Plenty...good coaching tree, tournament wins, all at a small school in a big time conference (for some part).
2. Defense: Marquette plays hard. The were a bit small, but whatever. Jerel McNeal was a shut-down defender.
3. Recruiting: Buckley and Crean are familiar with players in Indiana.
Good stuff indeed. Thanks for the links...I can't wait ot hear more.
crawfrod - roth
Ebanks - Ellis - Mcghee
Thomas - (Juco Transfer)- Taber
Eli - Pritchard
Crawford
Ebanks
Eli
Pritchard
Deandre I do not think he would help IU much at all unless he loses more weight. Nice kid though....
I just saw on peegs dan dakich has dismissed crean for missing a meeting with him about staying on as his successor.....
I wonder how long before Dak is gone, then greeny
1- Bassett, Holloway
2- Crawford, Roth
3- Ellis
4- Taber/McGee/Thomas (like this year, we will see a lot of tinkering here)
5- Holman, Pritchard
This is still a good team, and I think we will sneak up on people next year.
ellis wants to comback
