Inside the Hall: Ratliff still a Hoosier, rumor untrue

  • jaime gongora · 2 years ago
Lets all take the right courseof action and not say anything until something firm comes to the table. I don't like to respond to speculation.

    On a completely different topic.
Ok guys I need some advice. I'm a very superstitious person. My favorite player is A.J Moye and I wear his Jersey every game. Unfortunetly his jersey number is # 2. During the pre season its fine, but when regular and tournament time starts some voice on top of my head says "do you really want to wear number two when March Madness begins". I don't know what to do. Should I wear the jersey, and not care. Should I wear the jersey and add a paper 3 to show I'm supporting Eric Gordon? Or should I not wear the Jersey at all? Whenever I walk around Chapel Hill students make fun of me for wearing the #2 jersey, but I still scream back " oh yeah we still beat the crap out of you in a national championship game ( but the students don't respect history...... very sad)." I don't want to compare it to Coach Sampson's blue shirt situation but I'm conflicted and don't know where to go from here. Anywho any advice will be welcomed ( Or your insults for that matter. Don't worry I'm a new yorker and I can take it). I just figured we needed a topic to relieve us from the A.J Ratliff saga.

Jaime I say go with getting an EJ jersey which could ultimately becoming a throwback jersey once he goes pro or add a 3 to your current jersey.
  • nealE · 2 years ago
i think you should wear it. #2 is the number of a warrior. and that's what this team is made up of, warriors. and if someone says something about us "being number 2" when march rolls around, say it means it will take 2 teams to hold us down. because no one can beat us on their own.

    Jaime,
You're making too much out of this. Every Indiana fan I know loved Moye and would know who wore that jersey. If anyone questions you on your #2 jersey, just direct them to youtube:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdHIDhSeDDA

Other than that, tell them to go ask Carlos Boozer about the #2 IU jersey. Oddly, the above video leaves that defining play out. Ends with the blocked Luther Head alley-oop though, very nice.

It is an unfortunate situation, but this will free up a much needed scholarship that we lost, because we hired a cheating coach who has been caught before, and now again.
  • nealE · 2 years ago
dude can you not read? he's still on the team. it wasn't true. settle down, watch some good basketball, and smile. let go of your hatred. it leads to the dark side.
  • Jimmy · 2 years ago
Uhhhhh...Jacob? First, AJ is still on the team. Second, he is a senior, so his scholarship will be available next year no matter what. Oh, and shut up about Sampson. Thanks in advance.

Yeah what neal E said. This is going to be a special year starting at 7pm tonight (loveeeeeeee the big ten network). Either root for them, or join those jerks at Purdue. We can't have infighting amongst us, because believe me the rest of the nation is enjoying this because it means that they will profit with one less powerhouse program. Be composed and have a good time.

Thanks again for the advice about the Jersey. I will continue to wear it without regret, because you guys are right. He is a warrior and he put everything out on the floor. However, I think I will buy a #23 Jersey later, because if we beat UNC-Chapel HIll during the tournament and win a championship I will march right in the middle of the UNC campus with my IU gear playing we are the champions ( I might have stuff thrown at me, but that would actually pump me up). Thanks again guys.

Perhaps he had the flu or needed to study. It's really no one's business. Gee whiz.

"Perhaps he had the flu or needed to study"

Ha...Yeah, I would have to go with the latter. Just a guess, but, you know.

Oh, and Jaime...wear the Moye jersey!!

thanks for everyone who put Jacob in his place, and a special thank you to jaime for suggesting to others with similar issues to enjoy this moment or root for another team. if sampson isn't your guy, do what everyone else does and root for unc or duke...they are always welcoming out-of-town fans to join their bandwagon! for all of you true hoosier fans out there that can put a couple of phone calls behind you and root for these young kids playing some high caliber basketball, let the games begin...TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT IT ALL BEGINS!!!!!!!!!!

oh, and by the way, whoever thinks that aj ratliff won't make any difference to this iu team you are strongly mistaken. i agree he may not get the minutes he wants, but when he comes onto the floor he'll have scoring spurts and i can assure you his on the ball defense will be gladly welcomed by sampson who can't possibly be too pleased with the efforts of most of his players to this point. aj had a tough time in the classroom, but it doesn't make him less of a player. there are a lot of students who struggle with certain classes...trust this coming from someone who finished 4th in his high school class and was gifted at math, yet who could barely pass a basic college course in math (it just wasn't any kind of math i was used to, or interested in for that matter).

It's funny how some people hold higher standards of other people than they do themselves. Some people just can't let things go. I think we all have screw more than once. I agree that the head on the greatest basketball school on planet earth should be the best he can be but he is only human and from what was reported...he did not make any calls from his phone nor take off campus visits. Phone call are a little different then giving cars, cash, etc. I agree with Jaime this is going to be a special year so let's get on with playing basketball. Go Hoosiers.

lastly, jaime you should continue to wear the moye jersey! if i had to name any one player that i believe wore the "indiana" on his chest with more pride and confidence than any other, he would be at the top of my list for certain. aj moye was so much bigger than what can be measured in feet and inches. a-j-moy-e! without aj, ej may not be hearing his initials chanted from the voice box of the entire Hall...and there is a reason for that. KEEP AJ MOYE ALIVE...HE'S A HOOSIER FOR LIFE!
  • Luke · 2 years ago
Good to hear it was all just an ugly rumor about AJ. Its sad that someone would start somthing like that about him.
  • jaime gongora · 2 years ago
Thanks Ray the Jersey stays on and I will join my fellow Hoosiers by going ooohhhhh and ahhhhhhhhh throughout the games. You know what separates us from other programs is that we remember all of our players that play hard. Fancy skills are great, but give me a kid with heart and willing take a charge. Go Hoosiers.
