Inside the Hall: Pat Forde brings IU’s attendance into perspective

  • jg · 10 months ago
Pat Forde and his "Forde Minutes" article each week is always worth the read.
Though Pat hails from Louisville, and most always has an article based around Ashley Judd and her beloved Kentucky Wildcats, he also has some solid off beat reporting that is meant to enlighten and keep the college game what it is. He respects Indiana and the basketball program we have so this is no surprise that he would shed light on the good things happening in Bloomington. Send Pat a thankyou email for the solid press and accolades he gives our program, I'm sure you will get a response back.

On the stripe out... We had one last year against Michigan State. It looked cool, but there was some confusion as to what color to wear. I personally got 3 different emails telling me which color to wear (2 said wear red, one said white). Hopefully it will be more organized and come together really nice this time.

Ah, whoops. Thanks for letting me know. It's been added to the post.

I think there was talk of doing one last year and the students had everything ready to go but then the administration came in and declared white out at the last minute and it messed everything up and caused a lot of confusion. I'm pretty sure it has never been done, officially anyway.

I believe there was a game earlier last year that was set to be an unofficial stripe out promoted by one of the student orgs on campus. The MSU game was an official stripe out, I found a picture from the IU photo store that can be seen here:

BornRed is right, the MSU game was the official stripe out. The game beforehand they put pieces of paper on every seat in Assembly Hall with the color chart on it and the student section had a field day with paper airplanes.

And yeah, they messed up the first two emails they sent out last year. I got my email today saying I'm supposed to be in white, so we'll see how it goes.

But yeah, MSU game was definitely official.

Who'd've ever thought we'd be looking for a positive spin on an Indiana basketball season by looking at the ratio between winning percentage and attendance capacity percentage and comparing it to someone else's subpar program.
WE ARE THE INDIANA HOOSIERS! We DON' T have to keep doing this!

It's not of the greatest qualitiy, but here is a shot of last year's stripe out I snapped with my phone's camera:

Not to toot my own horn, but I began the campaign last season to implement the Stripe-Out. The Athletic Department was more than enthusiastic to continue it for this season hoping that it eventually turns into a significant game on the IU Basketball calendar ( as to what the Homecoming game is to college football).

Wear your colors with pride, Win or Lose (preferably Win though)

It is worth noting that IU is a traditional powerhouse, and many fans dream of going to AH.

Arizona State is not near the level that IU has, and does not have this "It's Indiana" thing to draw on.

I was at the IU Hoosiers Luncheon today in downtown Indy, and Crean and Glass said the Illinois game was the first “pre-sellout” of the year. I know that’s how it should always be, but baby steps…
