How do you expect him to respond. Giving you any details whatsoever only does Coach Sampson harm at this stage. It's all out of his control. It's lame you even printed this as if it were a story.
For the record, this is a blog, not a newspaper. We don't report news, we react to it.
He's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. "Look, he admitted to everything!" "Look, he gave a stock scripted answer!" "Look, he doesn't think it's a fair question."
Ignore it if you want, but don't expect us to. Being a fan is accepting the worst parts of your team with the best, and dealing with all of them maturely.
And truthfully, Sampson has probably been told by Greenspan to keep his mouth shut in regards to the investigation.
And if that were the case, would you go behind your bosses back and make off-handed comments in regards to an ongoing investigation? Just to appease a few guys running a blog, or even a website like Peegs or Hoosier Nation?
The answer is no.
There's nothing to report. I guess I don't understand why reporters do things like bring up Spygate to Belicheck or roids to Bonds or the infractions case to Sampson. What do they think they're going to get? "You know, I've said this and that all along, but being asked the same question for the 100th time by you sir, it's made me look within myself. I admit everything, I'm a horrible human being, and should be fired or cut immediately, as well as jailed and sent to the 7th circle of hell to suffer for eternity amongst child molesters."
Isn't going to happen. It's not going away anytime soon, that's why he's sick of it.
You want to bring up the infractions case? Then ask a question he can give a response to. Like "When the NCAA initially handed down the recruiting restrictions, you stated strongly that you and your staff were going to do a better job in this area. Now the NCAA is currently investigating self-reported violations in the same area. What have you and your staff done to achieve full compliance with this rule in particular and all recruiting rules generally?"
That's a great question. It's not a softball because it openly challenges him for failing to live up not only the rules, but to his own word. But at least it's a question that might bring out some new information, and comments that can be analyzed and broken down to the little reporter's heart's content. It's even a good question for lazy journalism because there's always a chance he'll do something stupid like repeat the "taking the rule seriously" comment he originally made.
But to basically ask, "Be honest, you're going to get fired at the end of the year right?" deserves far worse that what Sampson gave them, which was in fact a stock answer.
The NCAA situation hasn't had a real development since the case was filed. If something happens, then he should be asked about it.
It's a story. Sampson's going to have to deal with more questions when the final penalties come down on him too.
And for the people saying reporters shouldn't ask those type of questions...that's their job. It's not to be a cheerleader for a team, it's to ask the relevant questions. That's a relevant question.
Not saying Sampson did or did not cheat. But, a little grace would go a long way here. The host wasn't backing him into a corner. He asked the question, and Sampson would do well for both public opinion of him and the situation to give his answer with a much different tone and attitude.
I mean, who is this guy? Chris Berman? I'm thinking Coach doesn't want to give him something to work with under the circumstances. I personally think it's a waste of time until the NCAA comes forward with infractions. Furthermore, maybe they won't. Maybe that's why he doesn't have a lot to say about it in the first place.
Were you guys around for the Bobby Knight era? Let's give the guy a break.
Obviously, in relation to the NCAA mess, Coach Sampson got dinged with Cellvin Sanctions by the haters...and I must admit, it's pretty good. I still smile, even though it pains me.
I love Jordan Crawford as The Unidisciplined One
I call Mike White The Bulldog
I call DeAndre Thomas Teddy Bear Delux
EJ is I guess is simply EJ, along with IDKWTI, or Air Gordon, or Phil Ivey on a basketball court
Armon Bassett = Adrenaline
Lance Stemler = We've all though it ....Token
Lance proved himself to be much more than the TWG last night. Sure the kid can't score inside, and sometimes struggles to stay with better athletes, but he's a great change of pace for us. If nothing else he takes a shotblocker away from the hoop (their 4).
Ahlfeld=Purell. Guy touches more hands than Purell at timeouts. I realize we need walkons, but this kid needs to have a beer and chill.
It is due to a combination of his looks and personality. Its meant to be endearing.
This was so important to tell us...I'm glad it was shared.
Who cares about last night or our upcoming game with Penn State? Let's just keep beating a dead horse.
As for the question, its a jab by a no name reporter stuck covering Gopher bball, but ENLIGHTENED as a great journalist by this somewhat biased blog or whatever you want to call it. I think we all know there is NO NEWS on the NCAA investigation and to entice KS or bait him was childish and busch league at its best, if you guys call this GREAT journalism then once again my point about this site is coming true, thanks for backing my opinion with fact once again.............
