Inside the Hall: No shortage of 2010 visitors expected soon in Bloomington

  • GFDave · 3 months ago
I think that there are only 2 schollies to be offered among the seven players mentioned. You know that we're going to hold one for Irving, leaving one scholarship for the six remaining. I think it will go to Morgan, with Olapido and Kendrick the next likely. I think Poole is not coming to IU. Mobley probably will end-up not visiting, unless Irving commits to...that other place.

To be in on so many high quality kids, on and off the court, is really exciting.
  • CreamandCrimson · 3 months ago
Couldn't agree more. One scholarship goes to Irving, the last one goes to Morgan and then I say Kendrick (although I think he is a long shot). We can pretty much write Poole off and Brandon Mobley is a last option. It is good to see that we are Irving's last visit. Best case scenario, he is not overwhelmed by Kentucky, comes to Indiana and commits on his visit. A commitment from Irving might make a kid like Morgan want to snatch up the last scholarship.

GFDave, you're right, it is great to have a chance with all of these high-caliber players.

    Duke...not UK
  • roninjeffersonville · 3 months ago
We talked about this before. Is it best for a recruit to visit you first or last? I would say last. By going to other schools, he just wants to make sure, his favorite school is last.
  • Bleeding Crimson · 3 months ago
    Ron in Jeff,
I totally agree. If I'm a kid and had it narrowed down to two schools I'd at least save the best for last...assuming we are last. When he gets to Duke they will try and get him to commit then but his ACE is that he said all along that he would visit both schools and he HAS to keep his word. That alone takes the pressure off and he might just want to see what he was missing out on.

I agree also, visiting a school last can help, as IU may get some insight on how the Duke visit went as well......I would still love for KI to visit during midnight madness but I will take what I can get. I do anticipate a heavy 2011/2012 group at midnight madness....

Moses Morgan-70/30 he comes to IU. I would be happy with that, it is in his blood and I have heard he has improved. I get the Malik Story vibe from him which is not all that bad

Stacy Poole- 30/70 he comes to IU. I would be stunned if he did, but happy.

Victor Oladipo- ???? I have heard very good things about him...high energy, very active, and a sleeper in that class.

Brandon Mobley-- Based on it is between us, cincy, and SC, we may get this kid. Not to mention he is a teammate of D.Will AAU team. and he is above 6'2

Jelan Kendrick--Based on internet rumors, he is committing to IU after he visits. I have seen highlights of him, outside of Irving, he seems to be the most talented and a lot of upside. He has arms for days....would be THRILLED if he commits to IU. I could compare him to an athletic Verdell Jones.....

Marquis Teague---I think he is headed to KY, not L'ville, not IU.

As far as the scholly situtation....I don't care anymore, that is why crean gets paid a lot of money, let him figure it out.

Give us a Kendrick rumor link. I've looked all over the net and don't find IU listed as even a consideration!!!
  • Alex · 3 months ago
His list of schools is still lengthy at this point, which is why you may not have found anything with IU mentioned. In fact, I spoke with Jody Demling last night about Kendrick and the list he gave Jody over the summer had 32 schools.
  • roninjeffersonville · 3 months ago
    Alex
Can you give us a list of major player at thia weekend camp?
  • Kelin Blab · 3 months ago
That link was on peegs or scout a couple of weeks ago on their message boards ....would be hard to find. Pretty much he was interested in IU and the opportunity. This was all driven by a guy who said he was his cousin but others vouched that he was a credible source.
  • Bleeding Crimson · 3 months ago
    Kelin,
I agree as well...the knowledge on the technique that Duke used prior would be of great value.
I used to think like you on the subject that I was always curious of our scholly situation but I don't care anymore. It's great that we have the caliber of kids putting IU on the Top of their list these days.
It won't take Coach long to hang another banner in the Hall.
Question: Not that I'm concerned but how many scholly's will we have for 2011 if we sign two this year?
    BC
  • Kelin Blab · 3 months ago
I believe if I understand correctly.....we have 3 scholly's available for 2011...two are spoken for with carlino and etherington, which leaves us with 1 left.

If we sign KI for 2010 we could be done unless another 2010 stud wants to come.
If we oversign for 2010 above KI that 2011 scholly is gone....

Personally....if we get KI, I think we are done unless another stud comes along....because I know IU wants...Zeller or Plumlee or both

I hate to think about it...but If we don't sign KI...I say keep those scholly's for 2011/2012.
  • Alex · 3 months ago
    BC,

If IU signs one more in 2010, that will put them at 13 scholarships for the 2011-2012 season. They could always over-sign by one, but 13 is the maximum you can have on scholarship.

Ky-rie Ir-ving! clap! clap!..Clap! Clap! Clap! Come to Hoosier Hysteria at Midnight Madness! That would be the sell. Although, I kind of like the fact that he may be avoiding it to keep emotion out of the way and make the best possible, most sound decision (conjecture on my part). I have said since I saw him play earlier this year, this kid is a difference maker. I want him to attend IU more than any other player. He can make others much, much better. The others I have not seen play, but Kyrie is the real deal.
  • Taskmaster75 · 3 months ago
Now what's a man have to do to find an Amare Stoudamire that wants to come to IU!?!??!
  • ari · 3 months ago
HUGE that Kendrick is attending Elite camp this weekend. I know he is a highly sought after kid, so usually these type of players won't commit after weekends like this, but then again, no one really has a good grasp on what Kendrick is thinking. If I am KI and I am reading message boards about who else we are recruiting for 2010 class I have to be happy. Poole, Kendrick are headliners, Moses Morgan is solid and Victor is a freakish athlete with a lot of upside and would not be taking the ball out of KI's hands. The next month and a half are going to be huge for Hoosier basketball.
  • Alex · 3 months ago
For the record, Peegs reported today that Kendrick isn't coming to the Elite Camp. Good thing I prefaced him attending as "reportedly."
  • IU Marine · 3 months ago
It seems like we are still loading up on guards. I certainly think KI is a must have, but with that other scholarship I would seriously look for a 4 or a 5. Mobley is the only one on the list that meets this criteria. With his list of schools, it looks like we would have a good chance if we make him a priority. I certainly like the kids on the list and am glad that we are in the running two months from signing day. What is the chance the Williams scholarship is used on a player with more upside?
  • Kelin Blab · 3 months ago
IU Marine..... I have conceded D - Will is a hoosier regardless, I personally think IU will oversign by 1 in 2010 if KI signs and one other kid wants to come....then the chips will fall where they may with the current team.
  • Kelin Blab · 3 months ago
    Odd thought.....

what would be cool if on KI's duke visit, some IU fans in North Carlolina lined the streets to greet him..........

A couple of notes from the Elite Camp:

    - Both Steve Novak and Eric Gordon are assisting the coaches. Novak was spotted in IU shorts.
    - Jeremiah Davis and Jeremy Hollowell are both attending.
  • GFDave · 3 months ago
Excellent news. Thanks for the report, keep it up!
  • Kelin Blab · 3 months ago
Does anyone know if these elite camps are skills type of camps or more team ....or both?
    Good update Alex....
  • Alex · 3 months ago
From what I understand it's a little bit of both. Super freshman Darryl Baker is also there. Hear he really likes IU.
  • roninjeffersonville · 3 months ago
Alex, is Darryl Baker related to Tommy Baker. Both are from Jeff :)
  • Alex · 3 months ago
    Not sure on that. Sorry.
  • Alex · 3 months ago
A couple of other notes I posted on Twitter:

    - Austin Etherington and Matt Carlino are at the camp.
    - D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera is not there. He's reportedly visiting UK, Louisville and Cincinnati this weekend.
    - Marquis Teague and Ron Patterson are not at the camp.
    - North Oldham (KY) super freshman Darryl Hicks is at the camp as is 6-5 2011 guard/forward Aaron Thomas.
