Inside the Hall: New sanctions to be imposed on IU coaching staff

I'm rather ticked off right now. do we even have enough scholarships for 09 for stephenson and strickland? I like sampson, and in the end its just phone calls, but how could they be that obtuse? Every single time I'm happy to be a hoosier something (like mackey and mike davis) always takes me down. grrr.

Man after friday night and the great time with all the energy it was a great high. And now to here this, it is really depressing. I think KS is doing a great job and do think he will bring us back winning championships but this was really stupid. I mean it's phone calls and you know how many you are allowed can't they count? I want to positive about this but it is so aggrivating. I would think this will hurt getting Zeller, and possibly jones, stephenson, and strickland. Lets hope not.

Fire him. This is crazy. He promises it won't happen again and now this. Fire him and let Dakich take over for the year, someone who is new to the staff and hopefully had nothing to do with it, then begin searching for someone who appreciates doing things the right way. IU should fire Greenspan if he doesn't fire Sampson.

Big A, do you think he should be fired over this?

    Luke,

Firing Kelvin Sampson would be an overreaction and a mistake, in my opinion. However, there are a lot of Indiana fans who seem to think that's what should happen. I am disappointed in the coaching staff because they knew the rules and chose not to follow them. I am also disappointed because coach Sampson said that the phone call problems were in the past and wouldn't happen at Indiana. I am glad that the university was proactive in this situation and took swift action against the coaching staff. Let's hope it doesn't happen again because I have a feeling that the outcome would be much different.

Thanks Big A I feel the same very disappointed but do not think he should be fired at this point. I just hope the NCAA thinks that IU made the sactions hard enough and don't do anything else.

This is extremely disappointing and after hearing KS say we are going to do things the right way in his speech Friday really really makes it a further downer. I understand the "cut" throat job of recruiting but I do not want to win at the cost of playing by the rules.

This is a black eye on IU now, given the other stuff happened at OU, and I would not be surprised if the NCAA came down on us tougher. Losing a scholarship could hurt us in getting one of the guys we really want but that is the price to pay......

Now should he be fired....I really want to say NO because I really like KS as a coach, I like what he has brought back to IU as a national power, but I don't like the "dirt under the finger nails" so to speak. So my answer is "I don't know". I can't accept the fact it has happened again and to be honest apparently there is NOTHING in place to monitor or stop these phones calls.

KS and his assistants need a pre paid phone card! or a couple of books of stamps...

.....and one more thing, if you were at Hoosier Hysteria Friday night the only chant that was as loud as Eric Gordon was Kelvin Sampson....I wonder if he will get the Mike Davis treatment when he is or IS NOT announced prior to games....I feel sorry for the players cause they are going to have to deal with this also...not sure who said it but I agree I don't think TZ will come to IU and be part of this ....we may be in a Mike Davis situation again with a coach who may not be here very long.....damn this sucks bad bad bad....

A repeat offender of such a simple rule. I wonder if text messaging falls under the same category as "phone calls?"

Sampson has been a great change from the Mike Davis era, but he MUST GO!!!!!!

Didn't Coach Sampson promise to "do things the right way" and "make you proud of us". Well, they sure as hell didn't do it the right way and I am in no way proud of this bull. How embarrasing. I am ashamed to be affiliated with Indiana University and a fan of Hoosier basketball right now.

I heard a rumor that this was coming on Friday afternoon before Hoosier Hysteria, but I refused to believe it and let it drag me down during that celebration. Then to find out its true less than two days later. I feel sick right now.

The rumor I heard also said the probable punishment was the loss of two scholarship and no postseason in 08. And with how accurate the rest of the rumor was, I'm terrified that the NCAA is going to bring down that exact punishment too. Right now I'm trying to forgive this even though I don't know why. But if the NCAA puts a postseason ban on this team, Sampson should be fired.

We don't pull this crap at Indiana, period. We're not Kentucky or Illinois or Michigan or Ohio State, at least we weren't before. Now I don't know what to think. What was it, like 30-35 years since Indiana had any sort of violation, then it takes Sampson less than a year to end that streak. Only description is embarrasing.
