Inside the Hall: Looking ahead to Monday’s tilt with Notre Dame

I havent been able to catch the games because of BTN and the internet stream being so bad but have we been playing zone, how much, and how has it looked? I can see us sitting in it against ND unless they start shooting the lights out.

we've played it but it hasn't been effective because the team doesn't have two players to play the wing positions. Taber is too slow and unathletic and the guards are two small. I don't really see it working at all against ND. On another note does anyone think Jobe looks like Adebisi from the show OZ (its the same guy who was on Lost but I don't remember his name) I think we could easily see Harangady go for a 40-20 game. Bad news is he shoots free throws well too

Also, our zone is reallllllly slow to shift, threes in the corner are always open.

If I were Crean I would look to play man to man to get some guys shooled in this game. I would play Pritchard enough on Harangody and Zeller to teach him active movement ( Harangody ) and playing against zize( Zeller). Same with Jobe. Maybe even try Story on Harangody to see what he can learn.

Backcourt has similar learning experiences shaping up. I guess I would only play zone if we are actively considering it as our goto defense down the road

Wouldn't playing one of Indiana's guys opposite Zeller teach Indiana's man how NOT to play basketball?

Either way, I guess it's an educational experience.

Too bad that we cannot see next years inside guys for IU match up with ND this year. It would be curious to see how Elston, Muniru or Capo would handle ND.

"Nothing against Northwestern State or IUPUI, but IU will get its first true test Monday"

The IUPUI game looked pretty testy to me. More of a test that the Notre Dame game will be anyway. Monday will be like an illiterate taking the Bar exam.

Good point. Perhaps I should have worded it differently, but I meant "test" in the sense that it's IU first game against a legitimate, top tier opponent.

Thanks Mike Davis for not recruiting Harangody

Thanks Mike Davis for not recruiting ________. (Insert favorite Hoosier not wearing the candystripe warm ups).

I'm just saying, but last year against Marquette, Harangody played 2 really bad games, and they don't have any good big men. He turned the ball over far too often and didn't score much. I know, Indiana this year is not Marquette of last year, but I'm just saying

Let me preface these comments by saying, I know we are going to get blown out by ND. But here are some things I would like to see us try to keep it close:

#1 We are essentially a 3-4 guard team. Let's try to capitalize on that defensively, by employing an aggressive full court press for the entire first half of the game. This will make it harder for ND to set up their offense and pound us down in the post with their big guys.

#2 When we cannot press, or they do get into an offense, I'd like to see us in an aggressive man to man, or a 3-2 zone - let's take away the 3 point shot and let them pound us in the post. I would rather give up two point buckets down low than get flown out by a barrage of 3 pointers.

#3 When they are pounding us down low, let's foul the snot out of them every time they get the ball in strong scoring position. Make them beat us at the free throw line, which will also slow down the flow of the game and make it a little harder for them to get in the groove. Make them win ugly.

#4 Run a more deliberate, methodical offensive set. Motion offense that would make RMK proud - take as much time off the clock as possible with every possession and make them work hard guarding us.

Do all those things, and I think we have a shot at staying within 20 points.

We'll see how bad it gets. Hopefully this team you surprises you guys. I'm going to remain optimistic and say this will be much closer than you think.

I just don't believe this team is as bad as everyone seems to think...I'm not saying we're good...but I just think we're a better team than most teams in this situation would be.

I'm also not convinced that Notre Dame is the powerhouse they are supposed to be. If Harangody is slowed to any degree I think we'll see a competitive ball game.

I will not surprised if this game is close. I will be surprised if we win, but I expect it to take Notre Dame time to pull away, if they do at all. Let's not forget they struggled in their last game.

Regardless, I think the thing that echoes among our comments is "experience." This is yet another chance for these young players to gain experience....especially given the fact that everyone considers this season a year-long tryout for playing time on next year's team.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Harangody looks like the offspring of the Frankenstein monster.

Like everyone, it's hard for me to imagine IU being able to keep up with ND tonight. Still, it's an opportunity to compete against a seasoned, talented team. I think the team is going to learn alot tonight...so will we fans.

Go IU! Take it to 'em!

Ok, I was wrong. We suck. Notre Dame is loads better than I thought. I forgot about that little guard with the massive range.

    Crap.

First half...at least Pritchard showed some skill against Harangody. It wasn't awful...but it was pretty bad. We just can't shoot and do the basics like box out.
