This is an absolutely brilliant PR move by the university to "heal" Hoosier Nation, whatever that means. There's a large group of IU fans who believe Knight is dying to come back to IU but the university is refusing to honor him. If Knight doesn't come, those people have two choices: admit that Bob Knight is the one that has a problem with the university and not the other way around, or expose themselves as crazies who are Bob Knight fans and not IU fans.

i wish coach knight will do whats right, and show up for the fans. he can say whatever he wants about the university or the ncaa, but i would love to see him one more time in a red sweater in front of the fans who adored him!!

I think the bottom line is that until Knight is capable of separating the people that fired him from the university as a whole, it will be status quo. Not saying it's an easy thing to do, but until Knight can separate Crean, Glass and the current admin from the group that fired him, the current situation will linger.

I hope he can realize that the only people left with IU from 2001 are the fans. Myles Brand, Clarence Doninger, and Christopher Simpson are gone, and there's only two trustees who were on the board back then as well.

I still remember his goodbye speech, delivered in Dunn Meadow about two days after he was offically let go. He spoke fondly of the students at IU then, hopefully he'll return to let a few of us honor him.

So now that IU has made the first move, what will Bob do? He can ignore the whole thing, he can say snide things or he can forget the past and come to his enshrinement. One way or the other we'll know where we stand with him and maybe finally find a way to put the Knight wars behind us.

I'll lose some respect for Coach if he doesn't return to be honored. As has been mentioned the people responsible have moved on so a snub by him would be comparable to how he was treated but even worse since he has had time to get over it. I'd say it's 50/50, he is still angry but could possibly see this as some vindication- 'Knight in IU HoF, Brand dying of cancer" kind of a thing. Whatever his motivation, I hope he does the right thing and returns.

For me, and my admiration, appreciation, and love for RMK would be tarnished if he didn't show. I think at some point you have to move on. There are far more people in bloomington who still appreciate RMK than not and I think coach should return that favor.

Bobby walking out onto the court, more than likely in a red sweater, would be an unbelievable event!

I am torn on this. I don't like Knight. He was a great coach that could not live up to the standards that he demanded. If he comes, he comes. He was fired for all the reasons that a person would not be inducted into a hall of fame. The program is down, but the program was not that strong his last few years. We did poorly in the post season. If Knight would have coached his last 5 years, then he would have been able to retire in all the glory he wanted. Our problems have to do with the fact the university did not hire the right person. Davis was not ready and Sampson was a cheat. Had the university hired a Coach Crean then, we would have never missed a beat and this would not be a big deal.

I wish Bobby could get past the thinking that IU Basketball is the Assembly Hall and past organization and see that IU Basketball is the fans and those who love, respect and appreciate him.

That appreciation goes beyond the winning because when we say "Because it is Indiana" we are talking about not only the wins but how we win, how we run a clean, honorable program, about the discipline and hard work that makes up the character of IU Basketball.

Coach Knight, forget everything but the fans who know that you are the one who made IU Basket ball what it should be and will be again.

Say what you will, Love him or Hate him...RMK made IU one of the most successful and storied programs in the nation during his tenure: 3 Nat'l Champ's, 11 -Big 10's, 2 US gold metals, numerious Nat'l & Big 10 Coach of the Year, not to mention first row for handicap children, elected no pay increases, turned young boys into men, ran a clean program, took the wrap for his kids actions and dealt with them as he should have, the list goes on.

Myles Brand fired RMK for a continuing pattern of "defiant and hostile" behavior. That alone says it all. Defiant...Defiant against whom...the fans, I think not. The AD or Myles????
Hostile could be translated into so many words...intimidating, unreceptive and argumentative which we all knew he was. If that is the case than he should have been fired years ago and I would go on to say if he had put up another banner than he would have still been coach.

A step further...Look at L'ville, Memphis and Ky situation right now. Do you see either of these coaches going anywhere else or getting slapped. L'ville's AD said " that he is behind Coach P one millionth percent. WOW. Bobby had a temper and was very demanding but it's funny how when we were winning it was all OK. Some still brag about the five banners hanging in the hall but should it not be only two????
Nothing against Coach Crean I would trade him for anyone but I think we ALL know the right thing to do here and open arms to RMK for putting us in the limelight all of those years...good and bad.
I for one will be disappointed if he does not show up.

Knight was part of 3 championship years and many wins. It is true, that IU won and won big before Knight and has won and will win big after Knight. His attitude and lack of respect for the one thing he demands most led to his demise. We were a clean basketball program before Knight and Coach Crean will restore that image. He will win and win big. He will not cause the divide between the fans and university that Knight did. Knight's accomplishments are worthy of the Hall of Fame. Had he not chosen to follow the example of Woody Hayes, his legacy would not be disputed and his appearance would not be debated. A class act would show up and celebrate his accomplishments with his players and his fans. Knight will not show. The program does not need Knight. It has always been Indiana University, not Bob Knight U.

This has got to be a FIRST. A university giving an award of any kind to someone who sues you. You've got to be kidding. Some think Bobby won't show. My money is on him showing up because he loves to have a microphone. The question is what he will say.

well I was never very optimistic about coach coming back. However I am optimistic about this situation simply because I dont think the University would go out on a limb like this without a feeling from perhaps Bob Hammel or others close to Knight that he would possibly be willing to accept. I think the fact that Bob hammel is involved is a good sign. He more than likely knows Coach Knight better than anyone outside his family and I don't see him wasting his time on this if he thought it would fail. My big question is. How do they do the Hall of Fame induction at IU? If Coach is coming back they better have it somewhere that lots of fans can attend. Might have to move it to Memorial stadium if this announcement comes

Scoop says Creek arrives on Sunday and was named to the Kenner League 2nd team. This is extraordinary accomplishment for him and the accolades included how his game fit in the flow of the game...........it all sounds good.

Did anybody listen to the Dan Dakich show today? I just downloaded the podcasts. The Fred Glass interview was good. I think it's great to step back a little bit and think, you know what, if he show's up, that's great. If he doesn't, that's great too. How nice is it to finally have an IU administration that openly addresses this situation and even says "understandably" when referring to him not wanting to come back? Whether you like him or hate him, it is absolutely understandable if he doesn't want to come back. He was here for 30 years and then got the boot. That's an emotional thing.
