  • also i noticed the timing...coming after the super bowl. boras, take note.
  • nice, I was a freshman at IU when Bob was fired, and I never got to see him coach a game in person. I'll never like Myles Brand and his turkey neck.
  • WHOA
  • That's pretty stunning stuff...but ever really thought Bob Knight would go out normally?

I heard from a guy who heard from a guy who heard from a guy whose sister's mom knew Bob Knight's wife's hairstylist that it was all because Knight is coming back to IU since the NCAA is about to rip Sampson with a bunch of sanctions and IU is going to fire him.

That's the kind of crap we're going to start hearing now...
  • I mean ohh my god ( me in a fake john travolta voice).
  • Right on HoosierSmitty...I was going to sarcastically say that he resigned to come back to IU.
  • There's always going to be a special place in my heart for Bob Knight. But his time was up at IU long before he left. I wish things would have ended better and maybe someday he'll return to get honored by the IU faithful in an appropriate fashion.

I wish him the best and hope he just was tired of it and there's isn't something else looming in the shadows.
  • Actually...the truth of the matter is that he is going to run for president...for real.
  • Here's the good news. Just think who would be our head coach? I did not like Pat as a player and I sure as hell would not like him as our coach.
    bc
  • kinda shell shocked on this one. i saw a few min of his game this weekend and it sad to see that it was the last one! i wish he could have gone out with a little celebration or something..
  • Geno wanted to have him at his side in the Big Ten studio...Keady can be very convincing.
  • It's interesting, before I was an IU basketball fan I was a Bobby Knight fan.

This is only my second year at IU but Bobby Knight always seemed like the coach I would want to play for. (If I could jump, shoot, dribble and pass 3,000 times better)

It's always sad when an original and a great retire...and he'll be one of these guys that fades off, i'd be shocked to see him do t.v. work in any capacity.
  • I'm sure that Myles Brand and others in the NCAA office have let out a collective sigh of relief and a few high fives were given. Now what will the media have to report with him gone? No more shooting at houses. No more swearing at reporters, refs, secretaries and anyone else. No more throw temper tantrums. No more choking players. No more getting in the face of players. Wow, Sportscenter will be much more boring now.
  • With or without Knight, Sportscenter has sucked for nearly a decade now.
  • Yeah, I can't even watch it anymore. Each anchor has to yell and try to come up with their own catch phrase...f'n annoying. I miss the days of Craig Kilborn & Dan Patrick.
  • I just heard Bob has resigned to become and offensive coordinator for KS and teach them the motion offense.

If no one can tell I HATE watching our offense.

  • C'ya Knight.

Can we now get back to talking about IDKWTI vs illinois?
  • it will be weird not having him in the game any longer. i am proud that his greatest success was at indiana. i wish him well in his retirement.
  • Bob always went about things like he was killin snakes. Perhaps he can restrain himself, revisit some of his worst moments with the view of subjective experience being an open door to enlightenment, objectivity and forgiveness. nah
  • This is surprising, but I have to say I am pleased to hear of this news. College basketball is better off with Bob Knight as a memory. Hopefully he can fade quietly away and leave the sport to those currently playing and coaching, but I doubt it. Despite the success he brought to Indiana, I think of Coach Knight as, quite simply, an asshole. I look forward to someone more likable passing Knight on the men's all-time wins list, just like I await someone with more integrity passing Barry Bonds on the HR list.

If I may make a request Coach Knight, go find a secluded pond in Montana and fish out your days in quiet, and leave the rest of us to enjoy college basketball without you.
