Inside the Hall: IU Schedule Breakdown: Man, that’s a lot of losses

  • msdiu81 · 1 year ago
We will win 14-15 regular season games. We will get better as the season progresses. Go Hoosiers!!
  • RogueNation · 1 year ago
    That's some might strong kool-aid you're drinking!

I'm thinking 8-12 wins is more realistic. Real IU fans are going to embrace this team like few have.
  • JerryCT · 1 year ago
Counting all games I give us 14 wins as follows:

    1. Win all non-conf home games except NW State
    2. Beat NW and PSU twice each
    3. Split w Minn, Mich, Iowa

None of this will be easy
  • Alex · 1 year ago
I have a hard time imagining us winning at Northwestern or Penn State. We barely beat both of these teams last year on the road. If we win more than 12-13 games, I'll be ecstatic.
  • pacino · 1 year ago
Way 2 put it Alex! We gota face reality. Maybe 10 wins.
  • hoosiergal · 1 year ago
I don't care how many we win this year, I only ask for one. I want a WIN when Illinois visits Bloomington!!!!!
  • ALH_00 · 1 year ago
Amen. Find a way to get that one...please!

    umk...............

People need to realize that even these games that we think we will/should win, we probably won't. This is a team of all freshman/juco players. How many freshman/juco players make big impacts for their respective teams every year? Only a handful, and those that do are the best of the best or are on great teams with good players around them. I like the guys we got, but they are not the best freshman out there. The caliber of players we got usually need a year of seasoning before they are really ready to contribute, but of course maybe a couple of them will be better than we thought or will be put in a good system where they can succeed. But juniors and seniors on mid-major teams like TCU might not have as much sheer talent as a guy like Nick Williams but they are much more seasoned and prepared to play the college game. We assume we will beat TCU, but I am not sure we will. Same goes for Michigan, who is going to guard Manny Harris?

All that said, I am hopeful that IU does well but I will not be upset if they don't because this is what we will just have to deal with, there is no way around it. If we get to 10 wins with a surprise win against a conference opponent and show improvement as the year goes on, I will be more than happy

That's exactly how I feel. Anyone who thinks this team is going to win 18 games or even be over .500 has complete blinders on.

I am excited to watch this team and see them grow individually and as a unit, but please, you can be positive and somewhat realistic at the same time.

I think you guys (ricbraun and B_MD) are spot-on. I can't wait for the development period to be over in a couple of years. But, for the time being, I'm resigned to seek pleasure in small victories beyond the W-L record.

I just don't see a team full of players who have never played with one another, and with few who have played a Big 10 game, being successful in terms of W-L (even close to .500).

Also, the bench is going to be soooo short next season. It's going to be a huge struggle. Hopefully, there will be some victories sprinkled around to give them confidence...especially the Illini at home.
  • BGleas · 1 year ago
Exactly, the "wins" this season are going to be things like Verdell Jones development, do Pritchard and Jobe look like real players we'll be able to count on in coming seasons and does Williams look like a potential go-to player on offense.
  • Hoosiergirl · 1 year ago
Man, all you got to do is look at this schedule and you'll know this is going to be rough.
  • peaychris · 1 year ago
well i love my hoosiers but i am going to break out the K.Y. bend over and take it... i will be there to watch this mess, but i will stick with these guys.. they want to be here and i will support them!!

With the situation as it is this year the biggest things I will be looking at is not the wins and losses but rather 1) Are they playing hard ALL the time for TC cause you just know he wil be coaching his ass off. 2) Do they show continued improvement through out the season as it goes along (win or lose) and 3) Do they seem to be giving up as the losses begin to mount and the season starts to wear them down. I started to list whether or not they have the right system in place to succeed but at this point I think we have to trust that TC has the right sytem in place even though it may not seem like he does as he will probably be doing alot of coaching with next year at least somewhat in mind and I agree with that type of thinking because this is truly a rebuilding year the likes of which the Hoosier Nation has never seen before and hopefully will never see again. To Kelvin Sampson : May your failures be many and NOT far and few in between. You have for sure secured your place in Hoosier bball history but only in the worst possibe way. If there is a silver lining in all of this it is that it did bring us TC.

    lucky 7 x 2 = 14!

    OPTIMISM PEOPLE!!

btw, anyone know if TC ever visits the site?!
  • JerryCT · 1 year ago
I think 14 wins will be a great season with a miracle gettign us 16 and bad luck getting us only 10. I also tried to approach this from the bottom up by trying to estimate wehere the points will come from. I get about 64 pts per game as follows:

Dumes-14, Pritchard 10, Williams, Jones, Story, ROth, Taber avg 6.5, JObe 4, walkons - 3

Based on last years scores we would have won 14 games w only 64 pts. Still, this will be very difficult
  • hoosier07 · 1 year ago
    love the analysis Jerry!!!

Hopefully nick williams can average more than 6.5 though!! key word HOPEFULLY!
  • Alex · 1 year ago
Not sure if TC reads the site, but I'm fairly certain he's seen it.

Oh ye of little faith. We will get better as the season progresses as Crean will mold this team into a solid, cohesive unit and will play tough to the end. We will win more than most are expecting because we have Crean and because it is Indiana. Can't wait for my season ticket application to come and get to the first game. Go IU!! Go Hoosiers!!

If we win 16 games or more, TC takes home every Coach of the Year award in the country, and deservedly so.
  • shootit · 1 year ago
    Blinders
  • Sallad · 1 year ago
I don't know about every award in the country, but if he manages to be over .500, he's got Big Ten Coach of the year in the bag.
  • indyhoosier · 1 year ago
I know this team is not going to do much this year, but I do know one thing. This team needs more support than any team in the past ten years. Midnight Madness/Hoosier Hysteria absolutely needs even more attention than last year. Last years team was very highly hyped with a slimeball at the helm. This years team is the polar opposite. We have a brand new coach and brand new players. This is a chance to show how strong Hoosier nation is, and rise up through adversity. We now have a coach, and players, that respect what we are about and what Hoosier nation is about. I hope that everyone feels the same way I do and donate their canned goods to send a message that we are still here and we do not intend to move anytime soon!

    FYI -
Wall ST Journal had a good article on the front of the 3rd section Friday on an increase in east coast students going to IU.

Do you think Cheek, Braswell etc read the journal ? Maybe we are on the verge of an eastern fan base
  • Kelin Blab · 1 year ago
Hey gang...fyi...IU tickets v. Gonzaga go on sale tomorrow...good chance to see them in Indy and see Lucas oil...as of now it would be nice to see some offense at Lucas oil
  • junkman · 1 year ago
Interesting thought....who has more wins...the football team or the basketball team?

    ouch...
  • DJW · 1 year ago
I don't think IU Fans should dwell on wins and losses this year. A better barometer for the the future of IU BB will be how well Coach Crean can develop and mold this years team considering the talent level that he has been left with.

If they can compete with the competion and display team unity and skill improvement...this will go a long way.

Wins arent as important as dicipline and good sound basketaball

Best case scenario for IU this season (12-18)...

    Non-Conference (6-6):

    Easy wins:
    Northwestern State
    Northeastern
    TCU

    Likely wins:
    Lipscomb
    Chaminade (Maui 3rd Rd)

    Toss-ups:
    IUPUI
    Cornell

    Likely loss:
    St. Josephs (Maui 2nd Rd)

    Certain losses:
    Notre Dame
    Wake Forest
    Gonzaga
    Kentucky

    Conference Play (6-12):

    Winnable home games:
    Iowa
    Northwestern
    Penn State
    Michigan
    Minnesota

    Winnable road game:
    Penn State

    Likely home losses:
    Illinois

    Likely road losses:
    Iowa
    Illinois
    Northwestern
    Minnesota

    Certain home losses:
    Ohio State
    Wisconsin
    Michigan State

    Certain road losses:
    Purdue
    Michigan State
    Wisconsin
    Ohio State

Worse case scenario 7-8 wins, with a couple home non-conference losses, no true road wins (only 1 neutral court win), only 2-3 conference home wins.

The measure for success for IU this season will have to be something other than wins and losses.
