Inside the Hall: IU issues release with further details on sanctions

  • Michael · 2 years ago
I am relieved to read the conclusions of the Ice Miller report. I only wish that they had been released in conjunction with the announcement two weeks ago, because I feel like most of the backlash (including the “dump Sampson” talk) would have been avoided if people had just known the facts from the beginning. I only hope that the NCAA responds appropriately and accepts our self-imposed sanctions as punishment enough. Knowing the facts, my faith in Sampson is restored.

I to am very relieved after reading the release of the details. Being one that thought people were going a little overboard calling for Coach Sampson to be fired. I to still have full faith in our coach and can't wait for this season to get under way. Go Hoosiers!

Sampson lied about not knowing he was in on 3 way phone calls.

    Lied. Two weeks ago.

So he cheats while he heads the ethics committee. Then he gets a new job, and a slap on the wrist. He then proceeds to cheat some more (doing the same thing) while on probation, and then he lies about it to make the assistant look like the bad guy. The assistant gets canned, and nothing really happens to Sampson.

At some point, you just have to concede the man is ethically bankrupt.

I echo everyone else. I have heard the NCAA document is a MASSIVE piece of mumbo jumbo. Although there are a lot of things in there, I read another coach saying to follow all of the rules it would take a personal assistant. I do not know what systems are set up for coaches to monitor the rules and themselves but something needs to be done....

I am glad KS didn't further do anything near what was going on at OU. I do not know or understand what further recruiting restrictions are on HIM? Does anyone know? It seems Senderoff was just not very careful in his doings, although I have heard nothing but good things about him, I hope this blows over and he gets another opportunity....

The dump Sampson talk comes from opponents of IU & lingering Knight fans who didn't want Coach Sampson here in the first place. The best medicine for true IU fans is for this team to hit the ground running, win a lot of games & never look back. Let the nay sayers whine all they want, we have a top 10 in the nation program and they don't. It's going to be a fun year for all true IU fans. GO HOOSIERS!

I see Eshaunte Jones is going to Oregon State...good for him.

I hope the IU players have a " we are going to defend our coach mentality" and ride that passion all the way to a championship season. I hope they don't feel that this is another Mike Davis situation, where Sampsons's job is on the line on a game by game basis. Lets kick some butt, and laugh at everyone who is trying to bring our program down.

"I read another coach saying to follow all of the rules it would take a personal assistant"

Uh, isn't that what the compliance office is for?

I'm actually in the camp of thinking this is being a bit overblown, but making calls from home and not logging calls? If we were talking about some obscure, vague, difficult-to-comply-with rule then I might think differently, but as a recruiter in college basketball these particular rules don't fall in that category.

I am bothered by the thought that Sampson would lie about the 3-way calls . . . why would he do that? He would have to know that the details of the report would come out . . . it's like telling your parents you got an "A" in Algebra when you not only know you got a "F", but that parent-teacher conferences are next week and you know the Algebra teacher is going to *mention* that you're failing his class!

I hope some member of the media is willing to stand up and risk access to the program by asking hard questions . . . and continuing to ask them until they get answered.

I think it would take a personal assistant because you have to think about the AMOUNT of rules to follow and at a Major D-1 program with multiple sports, there are a lot of big and little things to follow. I don't excuse what happened in this case but to follow all the rules is so so difficult.

    kelin,

I disagree, last season the coaching staff should have been able to rewrite from memory the section on phone contact with recruits.

If it wasnt for the sanctions there wouldnt even be a discussion about this, the LOW numbers that KS was involved in SHOWS he wasnt trying to circumvent the rules of the sanctions. This will blow over, the ncaa will suspend KS for a few games MAYBE but beyond that this will be a mere afterthought once we hang No.6 in AH early next year...........

PS:I dont like the RS firing either, but something had to give and him making over a 100 calls from home and not logging them left him clearly open to firing. It really is that plain and simple, KS stood up for him a couple of weeks ago to ensure RS family was taken care of, that is what KS is ALL about..........
