Please No. Skiles very well may be a great X's and O's guy, and I'm not saying he is but MIGHT be, but we have no clue if he can recruit and that is the groundwork.

On top of that, I don't want a team of undisciplined Memphis-like thugs. Skiles, while tough with head bands with my NBA team Da Bulls, was a thug in college and I worry about what the team would be like. I'm in my fourth year in Bloomington and these player, for the most part, walk around like they think they're gods and do whatever they want. I fear the amount of arrests, attitude and lack of discipline if Scott "DUI at MSU" Skiles takes over.

Skiles can't be that bad of a coach. I mean he made the playoffs with his teams in 5 of 7 years he's been coaching. He also coahed Jason Kidd, Shawn Marion, Ben Gordon, etc... What exactly has Tony Bennett proven so far in his career that makes him such a great candidate? Win with his father's recruits? Who on the team did he recruit?

Skiles is not the best candidate but alot of you people are making it sound like you'll jump off a cliff if he's hired. Gimmie a break.

Off topic here but I saw teh NBA is doing a European Tour. Why would europeans pay to go see the NBA when they get watch the NBA Allstars get beat in the word championships and Olympics? You could say their going to pay a high price to see an inferior product. Basically a high priced autograph session.

I agree I think Pearl or Pitino would add that instant flash. I love Pitino and I know he has said that but i just don't know about getting him on the backside of his career, that is what scares me. But I do agree with you comment 100%. I still think we should get Jurich lol.

Nice articles on both espn.com and si.com about WSU and of course there are mentions of Bennett. Sounds like he just has a good scrappy bunch. Certainly could get that here, worst case scenario. I think he could get the bigger stars at a place like IU, just can't get them to WSU. He knows that and recruited winners anyway. Really excited to see him vs. UNC tonight.

Here is the argument for Pitino:

We can't mess this up. We hire a guy like Bennett or Miller, without the big name to draw in the casual fan and get people excited (really outside of people really following the search or those who know basketball well, Miller and Bennett aren't well known. Pitino is.).

Pitino has said IU has everything you want in a big time job. You can recruit from everywhere, loyal following, tradition, etc. etc. etc. Now whether this was on the record I doubt, but I have heard him say that and it certainly is true.

Pitino demanded 3 million last time and we said we didn't have the money. He's who we wanted last time (from what I've heard from various donors). So this time money isn't an issue. Maybe he's no longer interested but I bet his ego wants to be at a bigger college job, one of the "elites" again. He would be here 5-10 years, yes. But in those 5 years, let's say, he would get the donors to empty out their pockets, restore the passion and tradition, travel all over the state getting people back on board, recruit superstars and put them in the NBA, possibly win a National Championship or get us to a Final Four, and PROVE that this is a top tier job. He'd put us back in prominence, and with the new facilities etc. by the time he stepped down this would clearly be an amazing job. Then maybe you go get your Tony Bennett type of guy. That's the argument anyway. Not saying I agree or disagree, though I don't think you can argue with it much.

I like Pitino, I just want our own guy to come in here and succeed. Based on what I've heard about Bennett from guys like Steve Lavin (when he was here for Gameday, really nice guy by the way, like him a lot) he was compared as the next Coach K/Roy Williams type. If he's really as good as coaches seem to think he'll be then I would assume that tradition etc. could be restored long term with a guy like Bennett. It's just less flashy and takes more time, which the donors aren't thrilled about I'm sure.

Haven't heard alot really on Pitino but why would we want him? He has probably 5-7 good years left. If he wouldn't have made it to teh sweet 16 this year they were going to start questioning him. He is too wrapped up in Louisville with endorsements, horses etc. he loves the state and makes tons of money. Plus Jurich would do what it takes to keep him not to mention their buddy buddy. If we were going to try to take anyone form U of L we need to get Jurich. He is the best AD in the country.

Tonight I am going to try to imagine our IU team as WSU or X. I have to say that I am pessimistic that IU personnel could play like X. Who from IU would be Anderson, Burrell, DUncan, or Lavender.

BUT WSU I see Thomas as Baynes, Ellis as Weaver, Holman as Cowgill, bassett as Low and Crawford as Rochestie

I guess if I were the IU coach I would bring Skiles in to teach Gordon how to get 30 assists in a game.............ok.............maybe discuss it with Bassett, Crawford and Ellis.

Yeah lets just giv skiles a good game pat on the rump and moce on to the next. As for MIller saying he is staying. Find me a coach who hasn't made a compelling argument on why he is staying where he is. 90% always move somewhere else trying to get higher up the chain.

I searched for video interviews of Bennett and Miller discussing the tourney and found an 8min clip on Youtube of Bennett. I urge everyone to check it out and see what you think. So far i found Xavier videos but no 2008 tourney videos of Miller.

Thanks to EASY for alerting us to the ESPN.com articles about Miller staying at Xavier. It sounded compelling that he wants to stay put.

I hope like hell that WSU beats UNC. I can hear the whining and gnashing of teeth already if that happens. If not them, then either Louisville/Tennessee. I just want to see UNC fall short again and listen to the bellyaching associated with yet another final four without an ACC representative.

Oh, and I don't like Scott Skiles (to keep things on topic...sort of).

NOTE: I do not think Scott Skiles is the best option for IU...BUT

I don't think he's as awful as everyone is making him out to be. As far as pure X's and O's go, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who ever outcoached Skiles in the NBA.

Skiles's flaw as a head coach was that after a few years his players would get tired of his ball busting ways. This wouldn't happen in college, because his players would only be there for four years.

I'm not sure he'd be a very good recrutier, but if Skiles was coach IU would be a team that was always prepared and always play hard.

He wasn't the reason for the Bulls downfall this year - If anyone should have been fired it should have been Paxson, who refused to pull the trigger on any trades because he has no stones. Skiles was a bit of a scapegoat.

Still - All that being said, I still want either Bennett or Miller as head coach next year.

I just don't see Pitino coming to Bloomington. I live in the Louisville area and he has got a lot going on there. He is involved in horses or course, but also restaurants. He makes dozens of commercials for Louiville based companies which I am sure brings in a tidy amount of extra income. New state-of-the-art facilities, great recruiting class, huge support from the community. He is a city guy. I don't see him sitting in Bloomington.
