Is Christian Watford ready to commit?

Started by Alex · 10 months ago

The already stellar 2009 recruiting class for Tom Crean might be getting even stronger. According to Chris Korman of the H-T/Hoosier Scoop, Crean made the trip to Alabama on Monday to visit watch Christian Watford workout and then visit with the player and his family. Prior to the visit, Watford’s dad Ernest gave some major […] ... Continue reading »

  • oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy.
  • First video I saw of him I disliked but I have watched him more and more and have began to like his game. He long, athletic, can shoot, ify on ball handling but overall if he commits its a great pickup for 2009 and gives us Hoosier fans something to look forward to. Just one question would he play SF or PF if he plays SF I wonder how Nick Williams will like him taking his spot or if Watford would sit the bench......either way this provides more depth to an already stellar 2009 class and really makes me happy that TC is recruiting not only for the future but to win now as well.
  • If we end up snagging this kid, how many scholly's does that leave open for 2009? Can anyone do the math for me please? :)
  • He is taking our last scholarship if he commits. Its been said that Coach Crean would 'oversign' a player banking on someone transferring (realistically someone will leave). It is our last legit ride for '09 but they are still going after another commitment.
  • I think they would oversign in order to get Cheek or Braswell.
  • Do you think Angus Brandt is also on that list?
  • Probably so, but I think Cheek is the No. 1 priority (for obvious reasons) and I think Braswell is a better fit because he's going to give you more in the post. Brandt is taller than Braswell (he also will need to get stronger), but he's definitely going to need to add mass in order to play in the post against Big Ten competition.
  • Has there been any news on Cheek or Braswell's interest in IU? How solid are all these verbals we already have?
  • Cheek and Braswell are both planning visits to IU. Braswell's is later this month and I'm not exactly sure when Cheek is visiting. In order to land Cheek, IU is going to have to overcome a strong relationship he's already built with Villanova, Wake Forest and Kansas.

As far as the verbals we already have, I would categorize all of them as strong.
  • This would be a good get, still still still would like to see a BIG MAN come to IU, my Tijan faith is limited.....
  • Tc seems to be gradually erasing the problems / faults / mistakes of the past but still does not seem to be able to rid us of the "just can't seem to get that QUALITY 6'9'' or 6'10'' & up big man to sign on". Hopefully this is simply from the fact that he has had sooooo many other things to try and straighten out that this is still on the to do list and is going to be taken care in the not too distant future. When he signs this quality big man ,it will I think, be a true sign that we have turned the corner on our long road back to our rightful spot at the top.
  • INCREDIBLE!!!!!

if we snag Watford, our already stellar class of '09 is a sure top 10 class, if not top 5!
  • He looks alot like Jordan Crawford. But, can he dunk like JC? :)
  • It seems there was some confusion on the timing of Watford's visit with Crean. The visit is taking place today.
  • Once Watford has verballed, IMHO we will go after a big for the oversign either Brandt or Bawa Manuri. Brandt doesn't want to verbal until spring 2009; thus, if Watford verbals, Crean will have to roll the dice and wait to see if we can get Brandt in the srping or go for someone like Manuri, who will be in Bloomington for the BSU game. I have the feeling that chances of getting Cheek have faded.
  • Guys I'm going to reccomend an article from yahoo about the late coach Haskins. This is a man I looked up to, and who I strive to be. College basketball has lost a good friend and a good man.
