Inside the Hall: Interview: Tom Coverdale on his coaching career, the 2002 NCAA run and Tom Crean

    Great, great stuff, Alex.

That player reunion must've been quite a sight. Michael Lewis has always been one of my all-time favorite players. I wonder what the roll call was? Tom Geyer, anyone? Probably not.

You know, weekly interviews like this one would sure help get us through the offseason....

Great article - these are the kind of articles that I love - to be reconnected to some past players. Good work.

That is a great interview. Any comments regarding the new BT end of year selections? For myself, I think it is nuts that VJIII didn't at least gt honorable mention on the all BT teams. He has shown so much talent and ability to score in the past 10 games. Very solid play

I think it's going to be hard for an IU player to get any recognition this year. Players on teams with this bad of a win-loss record generally get overlooked. VJIII did make a nice little push at the end of the year, however, which was good timing and might help nudge him toward the Frosh of the Year trophy case, but I'd be surprised if he takes home the prize.

Going into the BT season, I thought Pritch was a lock to be one of the top freshman, and it just didn't play out that way.

Wouldn't it be strange if a coach from a one-win team garnered a Coach of the Year vote? Could happen with Crean, right? One win. One vote.....that would be a first, wouldn't it?

Notre Dame is an in-state school, so putting Luke Harangody on the list was a bad choice. You should've added Josh McRoberts (Duke), Rodney Carney(Memphis) and, Justin Cage ( Western KY) instead.

"One concern for many Indiana fans in recent years is the talent that is migrating to other states and other schools within the state."

Notice the last 5 words. Harangody had to be included to represent a top talent going to another school within the state.

Justin Cage went to Xavier. Courtney Lee went to Western Kentucky. I think he was getting at the fact that Indiana kids weren't coming to play at IU.

Coverdale is one of my favorites. Nice piece.

About Indiana players leaving the state, this is not new and has always happened. In the 60's some of our best players made names for themselves at Cin, UCLA, NC State, UTEP, Col State, KY etc. Then later Fla and MSU and now OSU, UNC.

Of course I would like to see the kids play in Indiana but we seem to whine about it like we have some god given right of first refusal. The truth is we need to compete against those teams for the kids , build relationships with coaches and even then we have only a few spots each year available anyway.

having a guy like coverdale on the current staff might be a nice addition.. in state player of the year who stayed at home my be able to convince some in the same position he was in... i miss those years....sigh

How about Coverdale becoming an assistant for Fife? That would be kind of cool.

He could teach Daniel Moore a thing or two! I remember the battles he used to have with Darby, kid was hard-nosed and played flat out. Not to mention, he had range for days! I will never forget that Michigan State game. Guy was money from the parking lot in. Come back to us Covey, we need you!

The fire within coverdale is what I really miss. Nobody ever had to question his heart and passion for the game. I really would like to see another player like him go to Indiana.

I love the line about if opposing fans booed him he was doing his job.....Tom Coverdale have twin sons, or 8 of them like the Octo mom and send them all to IU....

    Great piece on Coverdale...thanks guys

VJ III completely got screwed. Even my Boiler fan friends in Lafayette realize that...

funny how VJ turned his season around, went from people calling for him to transfer or warm the bench and questioning whether he would play when Hulls shows up, to being the best player on the team by the end of the year. good to see someone improve greatly from the begining of the year

That's great coaching - recruit the right guy and coach him to be a winner! Go Tom Crean!
