The saga continues.....My guess is this heads into the fall before the season starts. Does not seem to be in a hurry, afterall he is only a junior. Could be good news for IU, may have broken through the Pitino, Teague, Dad ties.......

In regards to Teague, here's a quote he recently made to a Louisville site:

“My dad wants to make it before the high school season starts but I don’t know. I might make a decision this summer but I’ve got to sit down with them (parents) and talk about it.”

This should be a interesting july for IU....

1. Creek receives his 'passing' SAT scores
2. Bawa arrives on bloomington soil and we get footage of him walking on campus
3. Marquis Teague decides to go to IU or go somewhere

In the indy star today there is an interesting article about a kid in Indy who loves IU but I don't think they have offered him.......he is also a youtube dunking legend.....

This will probably be a loss, but you never know. Last year we were supposed to get shelled by Gonzaga and we hung in there until the last bit. Hopefully we give Pitt hell this year in NYC

Certainly I believe you need a mix within the schedule. The first thing you have to do to get in the tournament is win games. If you don't win enough games, it doesn't matter what your APR is. The other thing is I think a team like ours will need to "learn to win" together as a team. RMK used to cupcake the Hoosier Classic and the other holiday tournament we hosted. One of the other things Alford said on the radio was about the preparation the team went through for the opponent and the first game he played they blew this team out because they knew that team's offense better than they did. It was something they could build upon, learning the requirements it would take to win bigger games.

I love to hear Brad Stephens speak, he always talks about opportunities to "work on us", meaning instead of preparing for the other team, work on the things that we need to work on to better ourselves. A cupcake gives you a little more ability to do that than say prepping for MSU. It also gives opportunity for players to get experience and for coach to experiement with different line-ups and plays.

I agree that Pittsburg will add another challenging game to what appears to be a strong schedule. But when you get a chance to play in the "Jimmy V Classic" you just don't turn it down.

Has anything heard anymore about Creek and Muniru? Creek SAT score was supposed to be available by late June. Well here it is early July and I haven't heard anything. I happen to be in the Creek camp believing that he is the real deal. I hope for IU's sake (and mine as a fan) that he gets his scores and get to campus. I was reading a blog the other day where someone had watched a scrimmage at Assembly Hall. It got the old basketball juices flowing.

I never understood or bought into the cupcake business. That is not how you get into the tournament or recruit big time players. I like what we are doing and will probably head for PR, NY and travel to Btwn for MD game.

That's a great point CraiginOR, the schedule doesn't seem to be any easier. I think the difference is when you get an opportunity to play in the Jimmy V Classic at MSG, you just do it, the pros will outweigh the cons for your program regardless of the result. Perhaps the cupcakes this year will have a bit more icing with some sprinkles on top.

An interesting tidbit I heard on the radio this week - Coach Steve Alford was being interviewed and they were talking about his time at Manchester College. I knew he had taken those kids to the Div III Championship, but didn't realize they faced off against Bo Ryan's team. I knew he too went through the ranks and was quite successful at the Div III and II levels, just didn't realize these guys squared off for the big game.

I seem to remember the Coach suggesting we would have more cupcakes on this year's schedule, Pitt, Maryland, UK and there are several ranked teams in the Puerto Rican tournament oh, .and the Big 10 is on an up cycle Also read on ESPN (Ford) that our biggest rivalry is with Wisconsin because of Coach and Bo having a history (never knew it)

I am looking forward to seeing how a matured Devan Dumes plays this year. I know the kid had to deal with some things this year but I hope he has worked things out as I would like to see him really do well this year. He could provide some senior leadership and one thing he can do is put the ball in the basket.....

This is a win win for IU playing on the national stage even though the program is a little down bodes well for recruits watching. A win by IU would be another positive step forward......especially being preceded by Butler playing, we cannot be seen as second fiddle...even though we may be for now.
