Inside the Hall: Hoosiers grab a share of Big Ten lead

    please don't fire him

    Please DO FIRE HIM!!!

He cheated at OK. He cheated again at IU AND he blatantly lied about his cheating. IU wins because we are the best, no because we cheat.
  • Matt J · 1 year ago
Mike Davis may have been a mediocre coach--at best--but he did bring D.J. White to Bloomington, and D.J. has turned into one of my all-time favorite Hoosiers. His monster one-handed rebounds are just phenomenal.

    Awesome job by everyone tonight.
  • BrianK · 1 year ago
He also lost Sean MAy, Greg Oden, Mike Conley etc etc
  • IndianaJoe · 1 year ago
I'd rather have DJ than all those people that left early to the pros. Not defending Davis because he was a terrible coach, but DJ is the man.
  • CoveyDale · 1 year ago
DJ wouldn't be half the player he is now if Davis was still around. Sampson said yesterday in his press conference that when he got here DJ was "allergic to running." the key for DJ has been getting in shape, something that nobody did with Davis (cough Marco Killingsworth cough).
  • Matt J. · 1 year ago
I'm not defending Davis, I'm just saying that I'm thankful he brought DJ to the program. That is all.
  • T · 1 year ago
Great Game. Sampson still needs to go. You can't lie to the school and the University and you can't keep cheating.

D.J. looked great. Gordon continues to drive to the hoop and look great doing it.

Purdue shot 30 more times than IU and the Hoosiers still won. That's pretty crazy to me. Good thing Purdue couldn't knock down free throws.
  • Jerry · 1 year ago
"Gordon looked great doing it " ? I guess you donot know a TO when you see it
  • Matt J · 1 year ago
I dunno. He had 23 chances to see one tonight.

Granted, a lot of those were miscommunicated cuts that would have led to wide open shots or uncontested lay-ups, were they completed...
  • Jerry · 1 year ago
I have tried to study teh recruiting rules. They are layer upon layer of rules especially related to 'calls", which can be emails, web sites, instant messages, text messages, faxes and true phone calls.

It may so difficult to comply with "calls" that KS has a defense and if so IU needs to defend for the sake of future coaches

KS is not my choice , Bennett or Wright are , COahes of the Yr in the NCAA the last 2 years BUT I donot like teh NCAA railroading us

Smells too much like Duke LaCrosse for me
  • BrianK · 1 year ago
Yeah whats makes it even sticker in the rules is that every call counts whether they pick up or their not there it doesn't matter. I like Kelvin, he's done all the right the things. I think he needs to go though. I don't think we can get our respect back or get the shadow oof this off of us with him here.
  • Steve · 1 year ago
If you want to defend the first time he broke the rule as well as IU hiring KS, that is fine. I was all in favor of the hiring myself. However, once he has been sanctioned for breaking specific rules and given additional restrictions regarding these rules you would think he would do everything he could to understand and abide by them in order to comply and get back in the good graces of the NCAA and the coaching fraternity. I view not doing so as negligence and blatant disregard on his part. He has taken a program that we have all lived and died with and pissed it away. For IU to stick by him would be to condone his actions. Some say innocent until proven guilty but hasn't he already admitted guilt? The only thing he is still fighting is the idea that he blatantly lied to cover up his cheating. That does not take away from the fact that he cheated in the first place (and second place for that matter).

were actually a half game back
  • Jerry · 1 year ago
By the way, I have supported the zone all year but the man to man made me proud and surprised PU . For that I credit the coach
  • John · 1 year ago
I definitely didn't think White looked 100%...but, he was still a monster against an undersized Purdue team! Also, Armon has to play and run the offense for IU to beat good teams...great game for him!
  • Matt J · 1 year ago
But did he look less than 100% because of the knee or because he was having some cramping issues? Some of those late game monster rebounds were about as close to game-saving as rebounds can be.

I just wanted to give Taber some love tonight. He hustles every game and tonight was no different and it really showed. A jumpshot and a dunk?? I just hope he doesn't leave for the draft early.
  • RobertSchell · 1 year ago
Yes!!! Much love for Taber, for his hustle on boards, setting good screens, and his contributions in points......Taber had more dunks tonight than Purdue has NCAA championships (Don't bring up 1932, it was before the "NCAA" championship came about)....Way to make a big contribution to the 4 spot, Taber! Keep it up!
  • widget · 1 year ago
Right with you on Taber. Anyone remember "Sloan Screen 45"? Taber did the little things tonight that brought the stability to the go-to guys. Stemler had some nice moments. Team win, no question.

    Ready to go, Coach Dakich?
  • Hoosier_Hound · 1 year ago
I loved Taber tonight (really everynight). The dunk was so unexpected and sensational. But I also loved when Marcus Green went up for a dunk and Taber just knocked him to the floor. That's how you defend Assembly Hall.
  • Tom · 1 year ago
i agree! we are a better team with taber in the mix.
  • CoveyDale · 1 year ago
Taber was outstanding. how about that throw-down!
  • T · 1 year ago
Jerry: Turnovers are a big problem for Gordon, this is true...But he still needs to keep driving like he has been. I'll take the turnovers with the 15 trips to the free throw line. (Especially when he makes 13 of them)
  • ALH_00 · 1 year ago
    huge.
  • ALH_00 · 1 year ago
They did seem to call alot of fouls tonight. That's good news for IU...(bad for Deandre).
  • sizeless · 1 year ago
Let me see here, 15 to's = possible 60 pts. ( 2 that we lose plus 2 that other team could get). I would love to do business with you. I'll give you 13.00 and you give me 60.00 in return. I don't think so.
  • Hoosier_Hound · 1 year ago
What an awesome win in a great, great rivalry game. DJ looked fantastic. He was like a man-beast out there all over the boards. EJ was penetrating, drawing fouls, and knocking down the free ones. Armon was creating and making things happen on offense, truly the play-maker for this team. Taber, what to say about Taber? The screens, the rebounds, the ten-foot jumper, the dunk, and knocking Marcus Green on his ass when that chump thought he had a dunk.

A great win to put us in position for a Big Ten title and send those losers from up north back home crying.
  • ricky · 1 year ago
maybe now we should give taber the green light to shoot if he is very wide open. at the very least it could keep defenses honest and make them guard him

im now starting to wonder if im willing to see this team lose a chunk of credibility and get pounded by the media if it means iu goes deep in the tourny. since the osu game they have been playing their best ball of the season and are a bank 3 from butch from being a top 10 team, maybe higher. they are playing as well as anyone in the country right now, including memphis, tennessee and duke. all those teams are slipping up a little bit, but iu is punching its opponents in the mouth. iu can win out the regular season with sampson as coach. with dakish, who knows
  • Matt J. · 1 year ago
What if "scenario 2" plays out (as reported by Forde for the world wide leader) and IU and Sampson come to an agreement where he resigns effective at the end of the season, is suspended for the Northwestern game. This would allow Indiana to go on with a coaching search, would allow the players to play with/for their coach, and brings some sense of stability to the remainder of the season.

Just a thought I'd been kicking around for a few days.
  • lance · 1 year ago
firing kelvin sampson could be the best thing that happens to this team this year with how much heart they are playing with now could only multiply if sampson is lost wanting to play for him even more and win for him. i think either way it goes IU still has a legitamite shot at making the final four with the duo of DJ and EJ not one is better in the country and the excellent team free throw shooting and the way different people step up everynight to help this team win they have a great chance
  • Micheal Hermon · 1 year ago
    i called the taber dunk
  • BrianK · 1 year ago
Taber dunks I'm pouring a beer over my head screaming like a madman.
  • IUato · 1 year ago
The players aren't playing with heart and emotion because of a firing of Sampson, they are playing with that heart in support of him. Have you not been reading the comments by all of them about being "family", or seeing him hugging all of the guys. I think they are expressing their support for a man being judged without trial by public opinion in the only way they can, and that's to play for HIM.
  • JamesHardy · 1 year ago
Perhaps in the future IF KS gets another coaching job, maybe his "loving" players will sit him down and explain the responsibilities that come with owning a cellular phone? If his players love him that much, they could do that for him.
  • IndianaJoe · 1 year ago
I don't care what anybody says. I think Bassett is the catalyst of this team. Bassett is the missing link. DJ and EJ will keep on doing what they do. I don't have enough good things to say about him about what I saw last night. Good D, offensive penetration, passing, shooting, and my god where in the hell did the rebounding come from?
  • T · 1 year ago
Sizeless: Gordon had five turnovers...not 15. He needs to work on taking care of the ball, but he CAN'T stop driving to the hoop. Withouth his driving and explosiveness, he's just a three point specialist...and we need Gordon to do more than that.
  • Jerry · 1 year ago
The TO stats are misleading. PU helped him out of some really bad jams. Please notice how the offense stops working when Gordon has the ball. The players know they are unlikely to get it back. His passing is not that of a playmaker.

This is where Bassett comes in. His drives are way more dangerous due to :
    1. does not drive to score but to dish
    2. can score if he has the lane
    3. drives to other places on the floor to create opportunities not just to the hole
    4. perhaps a more accurate shooter but less range
