My philosophy is you can never have too much talent. Even if that talent seems to be in excess at the guard spot it just creates so much competition in practice that it makes the team better.

A great example of this would be Villanova a couple of years ago with Foye, Allen, Lowry, and Nardi all starting with young servicable big men. Although Jay Wright didn't have as big of a turnaround project as Crean he stocked up on talented guards and got the program on the map again. That led to more recruits and a few years later they are sitting in the Final 4. And some of those big men improved a ton after playing with those guards (Dante Cunningham coming to mind).

What big man wouldn't want to play with the best point guard in the country? Bigs like talented guards and talented guards help them be their best individually. Would Oden have been so good without Conley? Would Thabeet have been as good without Price? Hansbrough without Lawson?

You're never at a point where you don't want/need the #1 or #2 player in a recruiting class.

We have Pritchard, Elston, Capobianco, Muniru, Jobe, and even Watford that can play the 4-5 spots (although Watford may be a stretch at the 4 spot, but I think he could hold his own on defense against some 4s and present major matchup problems at the other end). 6 guys for 2 spots. Let's not be too upset by that especially considering we are still on the radar for some good bigs. I'll take a talented guard any day of the week...especially a point guard that is ranked #2 in the nation. In my mind, one and dones are ok if they entice other good players and you don't have a whole team of them (assuming that he is one).

i think the thing here is in recruiting if IU lands the #2 player then other future players say to themselves regardless of if they stay all for years, IU got the 2nd best recruit in 2010 so that ups the ante for our recruiting

Actually it does. We're at a point right now where we need are 4 year players. Not one and dones.

I don't think we have a shot, but if we do get him, I could see ferguson being a shoe in.

I as well trust Tom Crean...because I have seen this Knight kid play, he reminds me of a Derrick Rose, not nesicarilly that good but still a good player/kid who has good focus, and what i like has a calm demenor to him that is very rare. Also i really much about this Morgan but if his dad is a IU alum then what the heck, go for Crean....

Kelin, I agree, we definitely need bigs, but if you have a shot at the #2 player in a class, I gotta think you go after him. As a PG, he could be a game changer and make even average big guys much better. I agree though, sign one and get some bigs.

I wonder how TC is so successful at recruiting guards. Obviously, looking back at Marquette even, they're a huge part of his system, but is he promising them they'll grow 6" while at IU or something?

I agree with you, but it would be silly to not go after the potential #1 player in the class if he's interested, regardless of position.

Before I type any further let me do something....(I trust tom crean, I trust tom crean......) OK.....waiting for the heading ..."IU is in the running for solid BIG me over 6'9" If I see ONE more point guard posting......I say get one of them...Irving, teague, or knight...or irving again and then shut it down the the tiny tots.....

I trust crean, I trust crean........

Also, if Crean starts to land some of these kids....that return to the tourney may be sooner rather than later.......

I really like Tom Crean thinking outside of the box and planning on going with the 5-guard set for 2010.
