The one thing to remember about Gonso is that he chaired the IU presidential search committee that recommended the hiring of Myles Brand.

Tom do you think that Bob Knight would of become the winningest D1 coach at Army? Try not batch. Indiana hadn't won much during the 60's......and Indiana was still considered elite in the 70's when Bobby took the job. Produced may of been the wrong term.....maybe I should of said an ELITE program like INDIANA help Bob Knight flourish into the winningest coach ever.....I mean even at Tech he wasn't as consistant. I wasn't "raving" about KS either. I was merely pointing out that he had us back in business in two years as a major contender. Until he left the hoosiers were doing great.....or at least much better than past years.

Oh and the Mike Davis thing....I'm sure you weren't runnin' your cock sucker when we were in the NCAA championship game. The players wanted him and when they got him they went to the finals and won a share of the Big Ten......maybe thats something that elite teams don't do.

The school has to move forward on getting a replacement ASAP. Every potential candidate will be at the Final Four, so IU must have their ducks in a row by then. Two weeks should be enough time for the committee to get organized. The school can't keep this secret because the media can file an open records request (which is what kept the school from sitting on the NCAA charges). If it hurts the current team, well no more damage can be done at this point.

At the time, the KS hiring was intriguing. Not too many people knew about the severity of his allegations at Oklahoma and had he not made the same mistake our program was heading in a great direction. I was at midnight madness this year and we had a #9 ranking, 5 5-star recruits in attendance and the #2 recruit in the nation in an Indiana uniform making Adam Ahlfield and others look like 4th graders. The program was a year away from being a perennial powerhouse. That was my point as far as the KS hiring. But as we know it didn't work out too well from there. But big name coach fitting in and building a winner in 1.5 years. My new point is that we should sit back and let this committee do there job. I think we will be surprised at the quality coach that they will hire. I do not know who that will be and refuse to predict but I do know this committee will do a good job with their task at hand. Quote me there and try to think of a lame comeback when we hire someone you dont agree with in 3 weeks because its people like you that never are saitisfied and only see things in black or white.

The wife thing was borderline hilarious. as was your attempt of rebuttal. Big name coaches want to come here.. your point about mike davis has no legs. Mike Davis was hired due to his relationship with the players/staff and his short term success as a interim head coach.

In 1980, Krzyzewski took over as the head coach at Duke University after having accumulated a 73-59 win-loss record in five seasons at Army.

Yeah that is understandable I guess but it just seems like bad timing. Of course this whole thing from the get go has been bad timing, so maybe the kids are getting used to it. I just hope this doesn't affect them anymore going into the tournament. They are going to have to be focused and ready for a very game Arkansas team and it doesn't get any easier after that.

They have fans wanting to know something is happening in someway of searching for a coach as well as letting recruits know they are being active. Plus the press etc. So they had to release something because it's been so long since we have really heard anythign in regards to this.

elite schools have been having troubel trouble getting big name coaches ex. Kentucky trying to get Donavon. Coaches are realizing they can get success at smaller schools now without the elite school pressure.

Maybe I am out of bounds here but does anyone else think it is a bad idea to announce this 3 days before our first tournament game? I mean haven't these kids been through enough of a media circus already and then to go ahead and give them something else to think about? I feel like it is in poor taste to make this public right now, maybe they are trying to salvage recruits but I would be more worried about our current players who have fought through the adversity this season than anything else. It just doesn't make sense to me at all.

Problem is that there is so much parity right now in College Basketball. Its real tough for a big name coach to leave his school for an elite/former elite program because his school has probably just about as good of a chance as any school to be successful. Looking back on it, stealing Kelvin from an already good college basketball school was a pretty good move (not looking at the allegations or the simple fact that leaving oklahoma helped him with that as well.) But I remember only old alumni being upset with that hire. I myself was pretty excited we were able to get him at the time. I think we might be surprised at how good of a coach we get this time around. Also, know that the people making the decisions have a lot more to take in consideration this time around and that is why there are some pretty unfamiliar but yet very ethical and successful people on the committee (other than Greenspan who is there by default but will have little to say in the matter I think). Just wait and see Hoosier fans. What makes our school an Elite Program is us, the fans, and how much we care. It wont be too long and we'll be back! Trust in it....

"a huge if" we can get a quality coach? i thought you said we were elite? aren't top coaches busting down our door to get in? another person that has no idea what he's talking about.
