Inside the Hall: Ellis, Thomas and Holman plan to return to IU

  • tberry · 1 year ago
Who the next coach will be and when we know who he is will be really important. Potential recruits, LOT signers and current players will be hesitant to commit to IU and the longer they wait the more pressure they will feel to make a decision and that decision may not be IU.

The faster the decision is made the better for everyone in the program and the fans. We need to be as far past this year as posable as fast as possible so the healing and re-growth can begin again.

Trouble is that many of the best coaches, the ones we will most likely be looking at, are and will be playing a little longer. I assume that no contact can be made until after they are out of the NCAA.

I've got to tell you guys, I'm impressed with these guys' maturity for the most part. Last time all this stuff happened people like Vaden just quit and they were ready to pack up the car right then. I respect these guys wanting to know who their coach will be before they decide to stay. I know they play for Indiana no matter who the coach is, but this is the rest of their lives they're talking about. Some of them, you never know what may lie ahead. I hope they all stay. It will make next year much easier on the new coach.

Good point Ryan, but for guys like Mcghee and Holman they pretty much have already sat on the bench for a year, do you thnk they want to sit out and wait another year. As for Thomas and Ellis you don't see plaayers transgerring there senior year that much. (killingsworth and his buddy). I think Bassett will stay he pretty much can fit whatever system you want him to. The big ? is Crawford something tells me he could bolt, because he just looks like he needs to play in a more up and down game helter skelter style. Could you see Bennett trying to get him to play defense and run half court sets, I hope so but not likelyy.

Helter skelter style? Sounds like Bruce Pearl to me. Hope the blue ribbon makes the move. Pearl would easily convince Bassett and Crawford to stay. Not to mention, we'd have a better shot at Ebanks and Holloway re-committing.

Whoever it is that comes in coaching next, I hope they take Crawford and sit him down in front of a tape of Davidson's games this past weekend so that he can see how Stephen Curry was moving through the offense and utilizing the screens set for him to get open. It's the one thing I've actually heard come out of Billy Packer's mouth that I agree with when he said that Gordon should have watched how Curry moved without the ball in order to improve his game.

    Interesting stat.....

Davidson still in the tourney.....IU out of the tourney. What is wrong with this picture.

Davidson has a good coach and a standout player who slipped through the cracks. And the coaching staff have worked to develop him into an all-star player instead of just letting him "off the leash".

Well let's see. Ellis and Thomas are juco players who I do not believe have a transfer exception left, so there's question of whether they would ever get to play again if they transferred.

Eli hasn't played a full season of basketball in three years due to injury and suspension. So he wasn't going anywhere. None of this is really news.

You guys who want Bruce Pearl...you probably ought to call your buddy KS and have him come back! Those two are 2 peas in a pod! DID you watch Tennessee play vs Butler? OMG! It was like watching KS meets MIKE DAVIS! I'll give them one thing...they play some tenacious defense, but that doesn't make up for the complete LACK of discipline on offense. My money says Jordan Crawford trasnfers to either Memphis or Tennessee! That's his style of ball down there. And i think Pearl and Calip have the NUTZ in their sack to get in Crawford's grill about his pouting and lack of hustle. Just my opinion.

Good stuff to hear. I can understand wanting to know who the new coach is going to be before making a sound commitment. However, I do like seeing that Holman, who (I don't think) played at all this year, is firm on his commitment to Indiana.

Here's to hoping Indiana does the right thing and make a good hire and helps secure the rest of the team so that they can get back to making a solid nucleus and playing well together.
