Inside the Hall: Eli Holman following McCallum to Detroit

As with all the kids I feel badly that our athletic program did not develop them academically and socially to represent IU and themselves with more success. It seems like Wooden's pyramid of success is more relevant than ever.

And I hope it works out for Holman

it's too bad our athletic program couldn't be there for holman when he shoved that ref in high school too, right?

eli has nobody to blame but himself for his current situation.

These type of things are what is ugly about basketball these days....."he is an NBA player" this is what is fed into these kids who haven't even played 1 second on d-1 bball.

Agreed, it is easy for kids like Holman to lose their way by the time they hit college - if you are a really talented young player you can get fed a lot of baloney at basketball camps, AAU tournaments, etc. If you lack a strong family support network or are lacking in character it is pretty easy to lose your way.

I went to high school with a Mr. Basketball in Indiana. Fortunately he had a pretty good head on his shoulders and a good support system, but it was amazing to hear him talk about the things that happened in the world of AAU, Nike camps, and college recruiting. Let's just say that there are a lot of young prospects that at age 18 hadn't hear the word "no" very often as their growing entourages seek to ingratiate themselves with a potential NBA star. It's pretty easy to see how some can end up with a problematic sense of entitlement.

Gee, a chance to play at IU and get plenty of playing time next season at a traditionally great basketball school with 17,000 fans watching you play, or go to Detroit, sit out yet another year in a no name place in front of nobody. Tough decision to make. Obviously his decision making skills aren't the best. Later dude.

"He’s going to put some more (championship) banners up in the arena and he’s going to get us to the NCAA Tournament."

I'm glad to see that Eli thinks that UDM has won some basketball championships in the past. The last time I checked they had only even made the NCAA tournament 5 times.

This could be the dumbest thing I've ever herd.
  • MPmike · 1 year ago
Yes, UDM will have a difficult time winning a championship in the Horizon League with Butler and Wright State being there. I'm glad Holman is gone. He has no clue about the tradition of IU and it shows with him not knowing how to call Indiana- IU not U of I. What a tool!

Considering he didn't even know the name of his first university, do you think there's chance he really thinks Detroit-Mercy is actually Michigan:)?

Wow! Move out of the ghetto in California and right back into the ghetto in Detroit. Good luck in all you do Eli but, this is dumbest thing I have ever heard in my entire life. Someone is putting some stupid stuff in this kid's ear!

Have any of you seen the "campus" of University of Detroit? It makes Loyola of Chicago look like Pepperdine. What a dive! Ray McCallum orchestrated the entire Holman exit which is one of the few things IU fans can thank him for doing. Ghetto punk heads back to another ghetto. Ah, kismet.
