That's a good point. With the whole "character issues" tag placed on athletes (especially NBA athletes), the fact that DJ handled the adversity he faced at IU with dignity and perseverance will reflect positively during draft selection. Any NBA team can look at DJ and know that they are getting a solid player, who consistently performed under some abnormal circumstances. I think that will make him a fairly attractive addition to any NBA team (all else being equal).

I also echo Big A's admiration of DJ and disappointment that DJ's situation wasn't better at IU. Hopefully DJ reaps whatever benefits are made available by his "revelation of character".

DJ deserves something from Indiana. Without him the last few years would of been much worse. He was our guiding light through a very rocky time. I really hope that we get this thing turned around. After hearing and watching Tom Crean in action I have a great feeling of confidence with him at the helm. Life after Bobby was/is hard. Towards the end, we took what coach Knight did for our basketball program for granted. A lot of people weren't happy with 19-20+ win seasons, an NCAA appearence every year, and a super clean program where players got a sheep skin. Now were begging for it. I do believe Crean is the man to unite the fans that split when Coach Knight left. Don't think that Duke and UNC won't suffer without coach K and williams as head coaches. They have already proved that. If we can get our program built right we will be where Duke, UNC is. Anyway best of luck to DJ he was a fine example of what it means to be a Hoosier.

I agree hoosiergal, I'm just hoping that because of some of the individual honors he earned, combined with his great attitude and overcoming adversity that he will ultimately get honored in some little corner of the building.

Based on what we have been through IU needs to start the DJ White Award for positive attitude and personal responsibility. DJ should award it personally every year.

PS: Henderson, ever see his near 30 rebound game against Michigan ?

well said, hoosiergal! i'm with you ... dj needs to be memorialized somehow in assembly hall. future hoosiers and members of the basketball team should know that you go to IU not only to succeed (eg: win championships), but more importantly to develop into an upstanding, honest, good-willed human being. best of luck, dj. you'll always have a special place in hearts of hoosiers everywhere.

DJ was one of my favorite players throughout my four years at IU. I wish he never broke his foot in 2005, because he and Marco Killingsworth could have made a run with that team. Wish him the best in the NBA.

I disagree with you, RebelMan, but more importantly, I'm somewhat annoyed that this is what you deemed worthy of mention out of DJ's career at IU.

Edit: noticed the article said he "had no involvement in any of this", so comment is well taken. apologies.

I recall seeing an interview with DJ (BTN, I believe) in which he discussed the portraits hanging around Assembly Hall and how much he would like to have his hanging there. Sadly it probably won't happen as there was little glory in his stay here. No championships, no titles but to me if I was to define Hoosier with a picture it would be a portrait of DJ White. He exhibited everything that I believe a Hoosier should be. Best of Luck to DJ. You will always be fondly remember as one of the "Greatest Hoosiers".

Very well said. What a class act this kid is. The one silver lining for DJ in all of this is that adversity reveals character. He has had the opportunity to learn for himself (and reveal to the world) the depth of his character. He will be a better player and a better man for it.

Wasn't DJ one of the players who skipped that initial practice? Doesn't take away from what he did and what kind of person he was, but I'm fairly certain he skipped that practice, which was not the correct thing to do.

Nicely said. It's bothered me as well. The kid went through a lot here and no one can deny how much he's grown as a player. He's obviously become more than just that because through it all, he's been the only constant. Good luck DJ.

dam skippy. When I saw him raleigh I saw first hand how this kid had heart and passion. He deserves nothing but the best. If there ever comes a day when we do retire jerseys, I hope DJ is on the short list.

That was absolutely well put. I couldn't agree with you more. D.J. will go down as one of my favorite IU players of all time. When I talk about my all time favorites I always go to guys I grew up watching like Bailey, Alan Henderson, Calbert, Brian Evans along with some from when I was a teenager like Michael Lewis and Tom Coverdale. After this season I have to say Mr. White is on a short list of my personal favorites. I hope in the NBA he wins the championship he deserves. This team had a lot of the pieces needed to do it with him but lack of discipline just crippled them down the stretch. Good luck DJ. If ya end up with the Grizzlies I'll welcome ya to town with open arms.
