  Do any of you know Eli Holman's status?? Is he being red shirted,is he injured? If not,
  we are really missing out on what he could add on defense. In high school he averaged over 11 blocked shots per game. He has a huge wing span. I just think he has a great upside that we are not using. I am OK with keeping him out until next year if he is a red shirt. If he isn't the coaches blew this one and used up a year of the kids scholarship. I have tried to find a direct answer about this but I keep getting the runaround. I hope one of you can answer this question? Thanks

  there was a thing there that he was out when mike white became "unredshirted"
  and I know his grades weren't so hot in highschool...I agree we could of really used him this year

  He'll actually be a sophomore next year, but could apply for the medical redshirt after his eligibility is up...I believe that's how it works...Just like DJ is listed as a senior this year, but if he really wanted, he could come back next year after applying for the medical redshirt

  Wow that was 10 minutes I'll never get back. What ever happened to reporter's who could ask the good questions and the questions people really wanted answers to and being original instead of asking these status quo questions? I mean come one asking "how do you prepare for the next game after one like this?" "How do you react to the guys after this game?" etc etc. I've read that same questions from several different places. Are there any sports reporters left who can ask what people want to know about? I hate Jim Rome but he is a great interviewer. A couple of the local radio guys do good in my area (Louisville). And what was up with the Milwaukee guy asking about how he prepares against Wisconsin? WTF!!! I felt like reaching thru and bitch slapping him. You could tell DD was thinking "who's this idiot?" Didn't the idiot know he wasn't head coach at the time IU played Wisconsin and why would he be studying them now when their not playing them again? I hope he gets put back in the mailroom. I deal with the Courier Journal, Evening News and Tribune here and Evening news never gives much since its so small and the Tribune asked lame duck questions and the courier does good once in awhile. Afternoon Underdogs (Adam Neft is IU fan) do good and so does Lachland Mclean does good I wish they would get him on to interview him. Maybe they would ask about Mcghee and why he doesn't seem to be getting after them for whining to ref's and being lazy getting back into the plays. Well I'm done sorry but had to vent.

  it's absolutely crazy that Mcghee isn't good for a few minutes a game...what a waste of a year...i would be pissed if i was him...just like Johnson and Tapak...who the hell knows what you have as aplayer until you get accual game time minutes...in the MState game i would have sat most of the starters and played the reserves...at least they would have played with a little heart...i would rather lose by 30 with players giving all than players going thru the motions...

  I hate the fact that DD has gone against his norm with coaching these guys. He was criticized at Bowling Green for being too tough and in your face....now he is the total opposite. If I recall wasn't Erik Suhr a walk on ? Look at how much he has meant to the IU program.
  
  McGhee not playing has puzzled me all year. Not in the sense he deserves to play cause he is on the team....but in the areas of what this team is lacking at times, KS, Dak, and NO ONE can tell me....Mike White, Kyle Tabar, and Deandre Thomas provide those things....even stemler. His "freshmen" mistakes cannot be any worse than EJ or Jordan......I would hate to lose him next season but it would not surprise. You may want to keep him around given Ebanks in on shakey ground.....
  
  I have a question on a Coach, I haven't thought it through totally.....
  
  Why NOT pat knight.....
  * Young coach like Scott Drew , Tony Bennett, and Keno Davis
  * Great coaching lineage....like drew, bennett, and davis
  * Understands the importance of running a clean program
  * Arguably has as much or more experience on the bench
  * Obvious he has Indiana ties, like Scott Drew and Tony Bennett
  * Different demeanor than ol' dad.....could relate better to todays AAU athlete
  
  Just a thought ........what do you think.....

  First off, his resume is about as long as my &!($, and that ain't very long. Secondly, I for one am ready to step away from the tree (the bobby and IU tree). Way too many excellent hires out there to even have him on your long list, let alone short list. No offense buddy...I enjoy your posts...but have you been drinkin' this morning?
  
  As far as all of the talk about this current team...character issues...heart...grades..., etc. I personally will be a much happier camper here in about 2-3 years when we get back to recruiting "IU" caliber kids...blue collar...hard nosed...clean slate...good grades...love of the game...respect for the IU tradition. Now that's IU basketball. Someone here referenced recently a few games this year being "IU basketball". I ain't seen no "IU basketball" played for more than a few years.

  I like the idea of Pat KNight but I think the timing is bad. I think he needs at least a couple years to prove himself as a head coach and recruiter. He has got a team that isn't that great. They did do good and beating Texas so that looks promising. But I think he needs to show he can pull in some decent recruits and get the tech climbing the rankins some before he should get a job at IU.

  A little off topic but having caught some of the Gonzaga / Santa Clara game last night, I was reminded why I wanted Mark Few as our head coach. Anyone think this might be the right time to lure him away from the state of Washington?

  He is the first call I make. He has the best resume outside of the Calhoun's, Coach K., B. Knight, Williams...etc. That man will hang banners in B'town.

  Who knows if P. Knight can recruit? That's my biggest concern. Well, that, and the fact that he'll only have about 10 games of head coaching experience after this year.
  (I actually think it would be hilarious if Texas Tech fired him after this year with a statement like, "Uh, we hired Bobby Knight, not his son. Just because Bobby stepped down doesn't mean that we have to retain Pat as head coach...)
  
  Not that I want anything bad to happen to Pat Knight, I just would find that hilarious. That may lead to the final straw of Bobby Knight flipping out and murdering several Texas Tech higher ups.
  
  My new wild card that i haven't heard anyone talk about is Lawrence Frank. He's a "Bobby Knight guy" (whatever that means) he has strong ties in the east coast (he could help land Ebanks and other east coast guys.) And he could throw the old "I know how to get guys into the NBA...I coached there and was relatively successful.)
  
  Not saying that I want him, i'd still take Pearl, Matta and maybe Bennett and Miller...but in terms of a long shot, Lawrence Frank maybe?

  Tech also has 3 top players from the state of Texas coming in next year and Pat has been doing all of the off campus recruiting for a little over a year now.

  just curious...is the sean kline recruitment a GOOD thing or a BAD thing in regards to pat knight??? Cuz I know where it stands with me...(excuse me while I vomit!) I certainly home you were giving this as the prime example as to why IU should NOT hire him.

  YOu want a guy who can recruit.....
  Blue collar, hard nosed, clean slate, good grades, love of the game, and knows the IU tradition............
  
  Now Mike Davis couldn't do it....NON IU guy, Kelvin Sampson NON IU guy...
  
  Pat Knight knows the IU tradition, helped run a clean program, TTech kids with less talent, they do play hard...ask texas?
  
  We don't know if he can recruit, but we don't know that about any of the other YOUNG candidates..........I am not a Pat Knight guy but if you take away the name and look at the resume and what WE want you can't totally rule him out....

  You make an excellent argument...though we're not arguing. Being 41 and having "been there" during the glory days, I just want the program to return to what it was in the 70's and 80's. Man, I love IU basketball like nothing else, and I really don't care where the next coach comes from (IU tree, RMK tree, banana tree). I just want a clean, winning program. Forget the whole tree thing. It just doesn't make sense to me to predicate interviewing pecking order on the tree/family. And I'm not saying that you are...I don't think you are.
  
  You've swayed me, though. Your points are well taken. BUT, with that being said, you gotta interview Alford too. His coaching career has been up and down. The down having been at Iowa, but put it into perspective. Can you really expect an IU guy to do well out in that corn field? Maybe we've all had jobs, or been on a team, whatever...where it's not the right fit...asshole for a boss...coach playing favorites...whatever. That might be the case with Alford. If you bring in an IU guy for the sake of bringing in an IU guy, then Alford needs to be your first interview. I'm not campaigning for him, but I believe in that statement.
  
  Pat Knight is now on my "medium" list. You're 100% right. I personally don't want Calipari, Pearl or Matta. Too much baggage and BS. This whole coach search is going to be very interesting. I just pray that we all don't get our minds blown again.

  Miller and Bennett have both pulled in recruits has head coaches so far and have both gotten in top 25. Pat Knight has yet to prove that. Alford I can't see. If we say Alford's coaching record is what it is because he hasn't found the right fit we can say that about any coach. Alford except for a couple years hasn't proved to be that great of a coach to get a premier coaching job. Nobody else is beating down his door. Personally I would love to get Pat Knight. He is the only Knight "guy" I think is close to being worthy but I don't think it would be the smartest decision right now.

  Go Buckeyes! Beat the Boilers! Have some freaking pride Ohio State! Four games in a row? Come on now...end the losing streak and keep the Boilers from getting a Big Ten title...that'll at least ease my pain to some degree...

  I think IU will have to make a huge decision concerning a coaching hire soon. You can't have affordable and big name at the same time.
  
  There are several young coaches who could become consistently great at IU and they are affordable. However, If you want to keep and immediately get great recruits, it will take a coach with a great reputation BUT they are not cheap.
  
  Which way will IU go? I predict, affordable. For some reason IU never want to pay for a coach even if it means take a chance on soiled goods or a mediocre resume. I hope IU will change its philosophy and go for the best. They need to be willing to make a salary offer that will make any coach take a long hard look at the IU job.

  That's why I think Miller, Bennett, or Grant would be perfect. They could still get our recruits to stay, provided we don't get death sentence. But if we did get it it wouldn't discourage them as bad as an established coach. They would also likely be around awhile. By the time it came to renegatiate teh their contract for more money we would have more money since we would have great percentage of our sports debt paid off.

  How long has Grant been the head man at VCU? I try to catch their games whenever they're on, and I don't remember having seen him for much over the past season. But again, I wasn't interested in him as a head coach last year.

  I would agree with Alford, although I don't want him.....I am in my late 30's and I enjoyed IU winning, competing, and setting a standard in this state and sometimes in the country........doing things the right way. I could argue Purdue is that team now.....YUK
  
  Alfords Iowa years suck because everyone Iowa years suck....hence. ....Lickliter......His New Mexico team I think is doing well and he had a good run in D-3 where there is no scholly's so you have to coach your ass off......
  
  I am really not pushing for Pat Knight but I think he should be in the conversation at the least.....now after the conversation is another story.
  
  Hopefully some of us will be on the search comittee.....

  2nd call.....Hey Sean Miller....what you been up too....
  3rd call....Brad B....how happy are you at Wright State?....
  4th call......Tony Bennett.....despite the rumors you have been hearing, we love you....
  5th call.....Pat...How is your dad in retirement? Good, lets cut through the bull, you know what I want.....and by the way....Myles Brand is not here anymore......

  Thad Matta is an amazing recruiter, who wins games. Matta landed the second best class nationally in 2006, highlighted by Greg Oden, Mike Conley and Dequan Cook. The Buckeyes made it to the NCAA title game a year later.
  
  The Buckeyes have shined on the recruiting front since 2006, landing the No. 7 class in 2007. The Buckeyes signed the sixth best class nationally in 2008. Matta has the makings of a No. 1 class for 2010 already.

  Assuming Holloway bolts, I hope we can find a pass first point guard. I want to see a player come in that wants to average 6-7+ assists per game. I'm tired of not having a guy that can distribute the ball on a regular basis.
  
  I love Armon, but he's not a PG....he'd be great out there with a pass first PG, being able to bring it up as needed, but consistently.

  What's the school record for 3 pointers in a game? I could see Bassett breaking that with a pass first point to dribble/drive/distribute. He's a pretty damn good shooter, and really hasn't had an opportunity to shoot very much.

  I've been saying that all season and I was told I was crazy...but it's pretty clear Armon has ice in his veins. He can spot up and shoot or he can break your ankle then step back and bury a 3 in your face. I don't want to lose Armon.
  
  Armon has to step up vocally along with DJ and get this team ready to finish the season strong, although Armon's play has been speaking volumes lately. He's been money.

  Totally agree that AB's best spot is off guard. While he's been fine in a pinch, he's really not that dynamic of a ball handler.
