Crean: “We’ve paid a price. Let’s move forward.”

Started by Alex · 9 months ago

Call it what you want — I’ll call it wishful thinking — but Tom Crean feels the Indiana program has suffered enough and it’s time to move on. Crean says the self-imposed sanctions are sufficient and would be disappointed if the NCAA decides that more significant penalties are appropriate:

  • anyone have any recent updates on when we can expect to hear from the NCAA and our favorite ex-president Myles Brand?!?! (just incase he checks the site!)
  • Ahhh, i don't know why i chat on espn, bunch of disgruntled Marquette fans trying to bash Crean the entire time, but hey, i guess it's entertainment.

I highly doubt that they would take away another scholarship, if they did, that would pretty much prove that Brand is in this as a personal vendetta, and not as a president enforcing the rules. I expect a postseason ban most likely, but im still going to watch the guys play, as it really depends, one guy will transfer, and it might be based on who doesn't play the best, meaning he will lose playing time when the 2009 class comes in.
  • Applying a very standard penalty in a major violation case would, with no other evidence, prove that Myles Brand is manipulating the process? I certainly don't follow that.
  • I can't believe the NCAA won’t think IU hasn't been punished enough. The IU Basketball has been decimated. They realistically look like a team whose coaches and players were lost in a fatal plane crash. There were no coaches and virtually no players left. No one could see how they would come back and still predict next year will be a travesty.

Yes, they have hired a great coach and yes, they will eventually be back but they could not have been hurt more had the NCAA given them the death penalty for a year. As it stands, any post season play for several years seems almost impossible.
  • I agree, but just as Alex said in his article, the committee spent too much time on this one case to just let them off now, but instead of punishing phone calls, how about bribing recruits cough USC cough
