Truth be told I think we have a shot, but I think we should take back our offer. Now this all depends if we get Irving. Teague is a one and done and I do believe Irving will be a two year player. I would rather use the scholie for a big man. Nothing against Teague but I think Irving is a better leader and can attract a big time big man to make a push for a national championship come 2011.

I think this Pitino thing helps, but not by much. If a kid is one and done, I don't think ricky p's longevity matters much....who I do see emerging is KY and Cal. This is perfect for him and one and done university. Not saying IU would not mind any one and dones, but I would love to get a Kyrie Irving and J. Davis as our teague alternative. KI can give us at least 2 years maybe, and JD can give us the other 3.....and bring a big along with him....

I'm over Teague- I would like Irving, but even without him I think there are better ways to go.

One and done is not a given for anybody ......that said.........I prefer a NY area recruit to widen our reach, especially one who could be a poster boy for our program in that region. TC has a track record there as well and we should use it. So I strongly go for KI no matter what the situation with Teague turns out to be.

I agree that in this case I would rather have KI than teague, but in general wouldn't you rather have an Indiana kid over an East coast kid. I get your point about recruiting, but we always get so bent out of shape when the best players in the state go out of state. With that said, I am not that excited about teague. I know he is good, but he doesn't seem that focused or excited about playing for IU.

Being from Indiana I agree with you in general. I guess I feel :

1) TC and staff have the IN recruiting process underway and under control. My evidence is Elston, Hulls, Etherington , Carlino transfer to IN etc.

2) I doubt Teague has the "pull" to make anything more than a marginal difference in the long term recruiting within IN let alone nationally

3) I also expect him to recruit the midwest like Ohio( TP, Capo ), KY, IL( VJ3) heavily and successfully with equally good poster boys for the program

4) to be a perennial national power however I think requires a NY and Baltimore area success and KI begins that in NY after lsoing Ebanks last year. It will help to play PITT in MSG this year

I can see nice PR pieces built around KI choosing to go to the IN heartland and become a national star , far from his metro / media roots.

The simple answer to the question is yes, it could very well put him back into play. However, I only see it as wherever Rick Pitino goes. If this act is so reprehensible that recruits will not follow a coach, then I could see it. However, Mr. Shaun Teague has said it doesn't matter to him. This is either a decision that says, our history goes back far enough, that an act of indescretion does not matter, or, his coaching abilities mean more than what he does off the court.

Let's face the facts on this whole thing, infidelity and abortions are a part of the fabric of society now, and are not looked upon with the same disdain they were in the recent past. (I'm not advocating nor agreeing with the acts, just saying they are not as taboo.) A kid is going to look at that and say, "What's that have to do with his coaching?" None of the LN kids have pulled out because of this and I do not expect it will change Marquis' mind, especially since his spokesman (Mr. Teague) has already said it will not make a difference.

I follow what you are saying, but Pitino's actions are not sanctioned by the NCAA. What I was trying to get across (not so well apparently) is that these are personal life things, not basketball things or NCAA violations (I know, we are talking about phone calls vs. whatever this Pitino thing is), but the point is there has been no talk of him leaving his job, and the recruit's father has already said it will not affect his recruiting. This is a personal matter that will not bring NCAA violations and happened in 2003.

It will make no difference. In fact the kid probably thinks Patino is even Kewler now and perfectly understands using your celebrity to "get a little." I expect he has and will do the same at every chance!

I'm not sure I care. Let's get kids that want to come to IU, not kids who may be settling for us because it didn't work out for them elsewhere.

I agree with most everybody here: given the circumstances at IU, Irving sounds like a better option for us at this point. I'm not sold on Teague being a "1-and-done" either, but I do think UK & Coach Cal will be all over him. Teague's a great player, an in-state kid, and he's going to be a wonderful addition to whichever school he goes to. But with things being what they are at Indiana (massive rebuilding, scholarship situations...) we'd probably be better served, in the long term, by going after someone we can count on having for 2 or 3 years. It used to seem like Teague was head and shoulders above the other pg's in his class, but with Kyrie's development over the summer, it's hard to say that.

well this is an interesting question and many of you have already made some great points so I wont just try to point out one. Let me say personally I know teague is an amazing talent but I am more worried about gettin Plumlee and Zeller for 11. I would never say dont take him. He's too talented and whenever you can get that much talent at any position then get it.
However somethin about this kid doesn't feel right. I dont know what it is but he doesn't scream IU to me. I dont know what it is but I'm more excited about guys Like KI, Carlino, Etherington, and hopefully Zeller Plumlee etc....

However if he comes to IU I hope to be proved wrong and will enjoy every second of being wrong. And for those who say this Pitino thing has no effect cause his father says so don't be so quick to believe him. of course he wouldn't say so publicly but privately this might really bother them or it could mean nothing. We'll see...

You make a nice point about "not screaming Indiana". Only one team , in my opinion seems to have a "brand" other than their style of play and that is Duke. The brand is of a bunch of kids who do not get into trouble, go to class, mostly graduate, compete hard and are loyal to the team, school and coach. Although some players have left early it is not Memphis or UNC.

I would like IU to have a similar brand. I think Crean is the right coach and these freshmen and sophs are the right kids to establish our brand. If Teague does not fit this brand, he likes the UL brand whatever it is, then he is just another good player but does not help us grow.

Duke is after KI hard. That tells me that he is part of the brand I want at IU. Basketball is a sport but also a business and thinking in terms of a brand, once it is developed, can be like having an extra recruiter.

thank you jerry "bran" thats exactly what I was going for I just didnt know how I wanted to put it. Id love to have IU be like Duke in many of those ways. Crean is the perfect guy for putting us in that direction

Pitino wears Armani suits to coach, disliked the food in Lexington so he opened his own restaurant...Viva Pitino!...and when he had an affair it had to be adultery involving a married coworkers wife. When Teague's dad says he "knows who Rick Pitino is" I wonder if he remembers the inner ring of hell is reserved for those who "betray". judas and Rick hmmmmmmm (indiscretion=screwed her on a restaurant table)
