Good, Bad and Ugly: Loyola (Md.)
I think Jordan Crawford is going to be unstopable by the time he is a junior in college. The kid is very confident, and you can tell that he wants to control the tempo of the game. That over the back pass to gordan was amazing. I don't expect that type of great shooting night each game, but I can see some consistent numbers in point and assists this season.
I also loved what I saw from Basset. He was driving inside but had total control of the ball. He also shot a couple of threes which will keep oposing defenses honest.
Eli Holman looked nervous, but you can see that he's very athletic and see he has the potential for great things. holman needs to gain more muscle, and develop a fearless attitude by attacking the rim. With time I can see him filling a tyrus thomas type role where he works for monster blocks and dunks.
Gordan was Gordan, and he has such a beautifull touch beyond the arch. D.J. looked great as well. Great first impressions. I hope Tyler Zeller watched this game, to prove that Coach Sampson can run a transition offense. Anywho, great stuff.

2. Pick your poison
3. Eli, once he "gets confidence and understanding" will be icing on a already sugary cake.
4. Jordan Crawford, if he keeps this up I will only refer to him by one name at IU.
5. Dj and Deandre work well together. Would like to have seen more of Deandre on the block.
6. The missed alley oop was the best miss I have seen ever.
7. Jamarcus Ellis showed some outside touch and 3pt range.
8. Opponents might want to get in shape
9. Not sure if teams will constantly double team DJ this year
10. The defense will get better...
11. Oh' Brandon McGee should be in the rotation, he is so so active.
12. (I wanted to stop at 10) AJ, I hope is working hard in practice, I didn't miss him on the floor but he was dressed very nice.

1. Either Basset and Crawford are going to have to commit to the one-on-one pressure when the opponent is bringing the ball up the court and start moving their feet, or we need to scrap that defensive strategy. Basset picked up a couple of fouls on the strategy and they each got burned several times. Generally, it yielded little and cost much.
2. I saw 1 good block-out in the game. IU gave up way too many rebounds because they were just trying to out-jump UNA for the ball. IU may have ended with a rebounding advantage, but considering the size and level difference and what I saw at the game, they did not do a very good job. Oh yeah, that one good block out was courtesy of Kyle Taber when he created so much space the ball hit the floor.
3. Very disappointed in Stemler. With all the newcomers playing well in the game, he looked completely lost making dumb fouls and turnovers.
4. Thomas fouled out in only 12 min, he has to be able to stay in the game longer than that.
5. Holman was the one freshman who definitely looked like he was playing in his first college game, but he gets a pass for the most start. After all, it really was his first college game.
6. Did Crawford remind anyone else of Rod Wilmont during the game. Some of those shots were what you would call, poor shot selection. But what can you say when they are all going in, just like Rod. Hopefully, they keep falling all year.
7. I thought free throw shooting was much worse than it was while I was at the game. Turns out it was a decent 70%, but it could still be better.
A couple of my favorite observations from the game were:
1. Thomas coming up with those 3 steals. How can a 300 lb guy be so sneaky?
2. The look on Stemler's face when Crawford threw him an alley-oop on a fast break. Stemler just looked dumbfounded as the ball sailed over his head and out of bounds.
3. 121 pts, 60% shooting, 12 threes, a solid exhibition win, and the start of basketball season.
