Inside the Hall: Bennie Seltzer, Kelvin Sampson and Indiana

I don't have a problem with Bennie for the same reason I wouldn't have a problem with Ray McCallum staying. I judge them on their own merit and not on the idiotic association with KS......

I totally agree and Ray McCallum is the inside track to his son who is an excellent ball player lol

not to beat dead horse and my ill will towards KS but he really screwed things up at IU and also for his son who is trying to break into coaching with his dads name and inititials.....poor kid.

Is he still a grad assistant or will he be moving on?

Trust i hate KS for what he did to Indiana us as fans the players his family and himself it is just ridiculous he doesnt deserve to ever coach again

I agree he should be judged on his own merit. Obviously Crean feels comfortable with him, having worked with him before. I agree that that is important, considering all of the restrictions, you need people you trust. If Crean had any reason to believe that Seltzer would hurt him and his desire to restore the IU legacy, I don't think he would bring him here. I guess that puts me in the "Crean Can Do No Wrong" camp if that's what you want to call it. But I just think that the new coach should be given freedom to make decisions he is comfortable with.

I like the idea of bringing in a team that has worked together before. He is apparently innocent of any wrong doing at OU so there is no reason not to give him a warm reception as part of a new IU program.

At this point, from everything I've read about him and heard him say, I trust Crean to make the right call. I really believe he cares about IU basketball and the image of the program.

At the same time, I'd be lying if I said that this doesn't make me a little nervous.

Who cares if an assistant worked for Sampson? Guilt by association is stupid. Evidently, Crean thinks he is good and that is good enough for me.

i trust coach crean, but i am VERY uncomfortable bringing in someone who is so closely associated with sampson.

i have no problem with judging him by his association with ks. ks wreaked some much havoc on the iu program that anything related to him should be considered a cancer. it's not a double standard. iu will be synonymous with ks for quite a while. he will be talked about, along with the damage he did, for years to come. as many years as he set us back, i don't want to have anything to do with him.

Did Seltzer and McCallum work together at Oklahoma, if so does this play a hand in keeping McCallum perhaps, especially if they had a good working relationship and Seltzer can tell Crean what kind of person McCallum is........any thoughts

Believe they did. Not sure what effect that will have, if any, on Ray staying.

IU was hurt badly because of the Sampson era. It is very unfortunate for everyone. I do find it interesting that coaches, for the most part (Weber & Painter excluded), are not commenting about Sampson like the fans and the media. Crean and his assistants are all friends with Sampson as are many Big 12 and Big 10 coaches including Bob Knight and Tom Izzo. So my point is we can't tell Crean who to pick. We can hope that any influence Sampson had on these guys was good and that coach Crean knows what he is doing. Its his team now.

Agree with you and for the record, I think Crean should get the benefit of the doubt with Bennie. However, I do think he'll be questioned a bit by fans and media due to his ties to Sampson. I think Buckley will do a stellar job at IU as will Seltzer.

    A couple of things...........

Bennie, Ray, and Buck would be a helluva assistant team for IU and recruiting indiana. I hope like hell ray mac stays.

I heard on the radio that during final 4 weekend some of the local guys talked about KS off the record and coaches had plenty to say that wasn't good about KS...ofcourse you can't say much against the fraternity on air but it seemed as if people thought he was an arrogant $#%^^

Wow what could have been in 09'..........

    G. Armon Bassett
    G. Jordan Crawford
    F. J.Ellis
    F. Devin Ebanks
    C. Tyler Zeller (whom I thought would come to IU if the nonsense hadn't happened again)

off the bench: BUD MACKEY, Matt Roth, Tom Pritchard, Eli Holman, Terell Holloway, B-Mac, Deandre, and Kyle T.

Terrell Holloway would have not committed to IU if Bud Mackey would have came. Holloway took Mackey's scholarship when IU stripped it away.
