Okay, pieces coming together. If we get Irving plus either Zeller or Plumlee I'm going to have to start failing classes to stay in grad school longer so I can keep getting student season tickets in the years to come!

First off, I think this is good news. It seems like Austin has exploded a little bit this summer and he has two more seasons of HS ball to grow and recover from the injury. You can never have too many athletic wing players.

I definitely think we are going to take commitments from at least two more players. Hopefully they will be Irving and either Zeller or Plumlee. But, I wouldn't be surpised if Crean takes three more commitments. We're in on too many 2010 and 2001 players for it to stop with Irving. I just don't think that's part of Crean's plan.

Obviously I think there will be roster shuffling for the next couple years. Look for transfers and maybe a decommitment or withdrawal of an offer.

This is great! He reminds me of MSU commit Russel Byrd from Ft. Wayne. I am a little concerned as to where this puts us with Moses Morgan. He was a guy that I really wanted to land.

I like this pickup, the kid's profile is rising, and thankfully he's 6-6, so he can probably play guard or small forward, depending on the lineup.

This does mean that without transfers, the game of scholarship musical chairs is almost at an end. If we fill both slots for 2010-2011, Carlino and Etherington put us at the Big 10 oversigning limit for 2011-2012.

3. Indiana Elite...plays with Carlino....plays with Zeller and Plumlee....

Thanks Alex for this updated scholarship numbers. I like all the players we have coming back. But I am kinda worried about 2011. For example:
If we get Irving, would we have room for Gilchest. And being low on scholarships other main players.
Coach has said 2011 was crucial. I agree, but dont kow where the scholarship are coming from.
Do you know why we stopped recruiting Brad Beal?

OK, I don't want to rain on anyones parade.....BUT.....

Has anyone prepared themselves for no committment from Teague and Irving? (This was even hard to type)

I have not, with the exception of Teague. The irving problem is we are hearing too many good things about him and IU, to the extent we don't even consider any other guards....J.Davis etc. I think Irving is reaching that Eric Gordon level of I want him at IU....he is not there yet but it may be getting close....

Am I right or blast me for even typing this.....

Kelin I think Teague is going to Louisville. I even blocked him out of my mind as a possibility. What concerns me about Irving is : we are putting all on him. Coach has said he is our man, that he will wait.
With the commitment of Etherington, that's one less scholarship, How many more will commit before Irving decides?
The other day you mentioned the whole IU staff was watching Irving. But doing that same game All of Duke's coaching stuff was there too. Duke is pushing hard for him also. But I feel they want him as a buck up plan in case it falls though on Brandon Knight.
I will go out on a limb and say: I think we have a better shot at Austin Rivers. then Teagues

Ron I agree, the Austin Rivers thing is intriguing but it does seem we have our eggs in the Kyrie Irving basket which is fine I just don't want us to get burned. I also read Etherington is good friends with J.Davis and is working on him.......Yes these kids are in different classes so that may help.

I hope we get Irving, I believe we will, Duke is NOT Dickey V's duke anymore, they are second fiddle in their own conference and have lost some of the luster....

Austin Rivers, I hope holds off until after Irvings committment to see where IU stands, but I sure as hell would love to get him on campus....

Obviously a far off hypothetical, but if we got Irving, how helpful would it be to get Rivers? It seems like 4 of our best players would be 6'3 and shorter and mostly PG's (although I guess Carlino is going to play more at the 2?). Rivers, Irving, Hulls, Carlino - geeze we would get up and down the court in a hurry with those guys

if true, are we pretty much out of the running for Irving? Do we want that many PG's? Even if we still wanted Irving, we won't have space for another big like Zeller or Plumlee? The numbers game isn't fun, although it's definitely better than the "can we get anyone decent at all" game from the last couple years.

I don't know how far his comments can be extrapolated, but it isn't unreasonable to think that he is considering an imminent IU commitment. I've been looking for video on Jeremiah but have come up dry. If anybody has a link to some vid, please post. Thanks.

Have you all considered that if we do in fact get Irving next year - which I hope we do for obvious reasons - he may only be around a year or two. I read that he ideally wants to stay 2-3 years, but that if the option to go pro after one year was available he would consider it.

If this were the case, getting Jeremiah Davis would be a blessing.

I'm definitely not expecting to get Teague at this point. It would be a huge surprise although obviously a good one. As for Irving, I'm in the same boat that I'm not even thinking about not getting him, I'm just thinking about when he'll sign and what other recruits will want to come here once he's here. That's probably not a great way of thinking about this because I'll end up really disappointed if we lose out on him. More than anything, I just want him to decide soon so that we can move on in our recruiting lives.

When is he taking his 5 official visits? September/October? You think we can expect a decision sometime this fall for sure? Is there any way he makes a single visit or two and falls so in love with a place that he signs earlier?

This is a great pick-up. I think he was waiting on an OSU offer that never came and felt a little crunch giving the scholly situation. Austin will flourish in our system. There is also a little chatter he is doing some talking to J Davis for us which would be an awesome get as well. Who else?!!!!

I think we are at a point where we just couldn't wait around any longer when it comes to availability. This kid can flat out shoot and he's still growing. I think Moses Morgan just lost his shot. These kids dink around playing roulette with these openings and before you know it you're at school #3 or 4 on your list.

I like this pick-up. He's rising up the charts and looks the part. It will be a welcome site in 2011 when we actually see true talent on the bench waiting in the wings so we can consistently reload.

Another funny tidbit. I was onfacebook and looked at Kyrie's wall and there were TONS after TONS of randomn people begging him to go to Duke. It's interesting and I think they want him bad!

Austin should be a great addition to the Hoosiers. It looks as if Jeremiah Davis is going to be committing soon as well. I like that we would have three guys (at least) from a high-caliber AAU squad (Indiana Elite). They will have some experience playing together and that always helps. Also, this can only help in the recruitment of Zeller and/or Plumlee. I have been reading the posts about the numbers crunch that we are going to be running into and it is kind of scary (not a terrible problem to have though). Don't forget that transfers do happen and guys that currently have scholarships may not be staying around. I hope it will work itself out.
So, a top five priority list now that Etherington is on board:
1. Kyrie Irving
2. Cody Zeller
3. Marshall Plumlee
4. Stacy Poole
5. Jeremiah Davis
I leave Teague off because I think that ship has sailed, hope I am wrong though. What do you guys think?

You're right. I would hate to see Roth go though. I think he will be much improved if he gets a little bit stronger and learns to not be a liability on defense. Also, he is going to get some open looks off the penetration that is created by guys like Creek, VJ3, Rivers and Watford. I would expect him to hit a couple of threes a game this season. However, if you look at the scholarship situation there are really only two guys that you would not mind seeing go. David Williams (he might be great but we don't know) and Matt Roth. As I said, I think he could have a good year but in two years it might be tough to find minutes for a one-dimensional player. Again, this is not a terrible problem to have.

I thought Plumlee was better than Zeller. He is rated higher on all the recruiting websites. It sounds like neither of them are really dominant post players. They are more finess.
